R&D Director

We are seeking a forward-thinking R&D Director to lead our Enterprise Content Management team through the next phase of software delivery at TechnologyOne. This role is ideal for a proven engineering leader who can deliver high-quality software at scale, drive technical excellence, build strong teams, and successfully lead through change.

As the R&D Director, you will lead several teams and cross-functional initiatives focused on building secure, scalable and customer-centric ECM solutions for regulated industries. You will help shape how ECM continues to support governed content, compliance, auditability and trusted information management across TechnologyOne's enterprise platform.

You will play a critical role in shaping and executing our technical strategy, establishing engineering best practices, building a successful team, and aligning development with short- and long-term business goals. You will help the team continue to evolve its engineering practices, embracing new technologies and ways of working while maintaining high standards of quality, security and customer focus.

What you'll be doing…

• Lead and mentor Architects & Developers, to deliver roadmap milestones on time and to budget at the required quality level for product releases

• Drive technical excellence, ensuring architectural integrity, scalability, and high software quality. Including but not limited to architecture, security, programming and quality management.

• Establish and continuously improve engineering processes, AI-enabled tooling, and metrics to enhance productivity and delivery efficiency.

• Lead the adoption of AI-PDLC practices across your teams, ensuring AI is used safely and effectively across discovery, design, build, test, release and operations.

• Champion AI-first ways of working while maintaining clear human accountability for engineering decisions, product quality, security, governance and customer outcomes.

• Partner with architects and product leaders to evolve ECM's technical direction, ensuring the platform remains secure, scalable, maintainable and aligned to TechnologyOne's broader platform strategy.

• Develop a deep understanding of customer challenges, industry trends, regulatory requirements and emerging technologies to inform product and technical strategy.

• Utilise input from customers, market research, technological advancements and trends to understand customer needs to be able to provide meaningful and innovative input to the Product Roadmap

• Champion a customer-centric mindset, ensuring our products deliver real value and an exceptional user experience.

• Work closely with the Product Success Director, POs and Product Success team to ensure software delivered aligns to the business case and to facilitate required Development Methodology activities

• Develop talent plans to grow and scale the team, including hiring, succession planning, and ongoing capability development.

Your Talents…

• Proven experience leading R&D or engineering teams in a software product environment.

• Strong technical background with hands-on experience in architecture, design, and development of complex applications.

• Strong process orientation with a track record of driving efficiency and operational excellence.

• Strong understanding of how AI-assisted development is changing software delivery, including the opportunities and risks across code generation, review, testing, documentation and operations.

• Comfortable leading through ambiguity, setting direction, creating guardrails and helping teams adopt new ways of working pragmatically.

• Experience working with enterprise software in regulated or compliance-heavy environments would be highly regarded.

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to effectively and maturely communicate and negotiate in writing and verbally with stakeholders across all levels
