Regional Fleet and Transport Manager
Hays
- Sydney-based national leadership role across student transport and fleet
- Transformation mandate across safety, systems, procurement, compliance and data
- Purpose-led environment where transport safety directly supports children
Your new company
This is a rare opportunity for an experienced transport, fleet, safety or procurement leader to take ownership of a nationally important student transport function. We are seeking a commercially astute and safety-focused leader with experience across bus, coach, passenger transport, school transport, heavy fleet, fleet procurement, transport operations, telematics or contract management.
You may currently be working in a bus operator, public transport provider, government transport program, education transport environment, fleet services, procurement, safety, scheduling, network planning or transport systems role. What matters most is your ability to bring structure, governance, safety, commercial discipline and data-led decision-making to a complex multi-site transport environment.
Your new role
Reporting to a senior operations executive, you will lead the national uplift of fleet and student transport operations across Australia. This role has a clear transformation mandate: to build a more consistent, safe, compliant, cost-effective and data-driven transport operating model. You will work across multiple sites and stakeholders, strengthening standards, systems, supplier performance, fleet lifecycle, safety programs and reporting. This is a hands-on strategic role where your work will directly support the safe transport of students and create a scalable framework for future growth.
Key responsibilities include
- Leading national fleet and student transport strategy.
- Establishing consistent standards, accountabilities and escalation pathways.
- Managing fleet lifecycle planning, including procurement, leasing, maintenance, replacement and disposal.
- Strengthening compliance across HVNL, Chain of Responsibility, WHS and duty of care obligations.
- Driving safety programs covering drivers, volunteers, fatigue, licensing, vehicle inspections, incidents and corrective actions.
- Managing suppliers, contracts, service performance and value for money.
- Owning transport systems, telematics, fleet data and reporting.
- Turning large volumes of data into practical insights that improve safety, cost, utilisation and risk.
- Supporting a well-governed driver and volunteer transport model.
- Influencing broader fleet and transport frameworks beyond Australia.
What you'll need to succeed
You will bring strong fleet and transport leadership experience, with the ability to operate strategically and operationally.
You will ideally have
- Strong understanding of transport safety and duty of care.
- Experience working with fleet, drivers, suppliers and operational teams.
- Commercial capability across budgets, procurement, contracts or supplier performance.
- Confidence working with systems, dashboards, telematics or transport data.
- Ability to build national consistency across local operating environments.
- Strong stakeholder management across operational, executive and site-based teams.
- Bus, coach, public transport or passenger transport operations.
- School, student, community or assisted transport.
- Fleet management, fleet assets or heavy vehicle operations.
- Practical judgement, calm escalation skills and a continuous improvement mindset.
- A genuine commitment to safe, reliable and well-governed student transport.
