General Manager - Ref #16819784
Miss Maud
- Lead an iconic, privately owned WA food and café business
- Practical, close-to-the-business leadership across cafés, catering, Bakehouse production and support operations
- Experience in retail food, cafés, manufacturing bakery or multi-venue hospitality is essential
Briscoe Search & Consulting are proud to partner Miss Maud, one of Western Australia’s most recognised and enduring food and hospitality brands of 55 years, known for quality food, warm hospitality, beautiful presentation and generations of loyal customers.
Today, the business brings together 15 company-owned cafés, catering and a substantial Bakehouse production operation (65 staff) running 24/6, all supported by online capability and central support functions.
The result is a diverse business, combining hospitality, retail and food production, where quality, consistency, safety and compliance sit alongside warm service and commercial performance.
We have been engaged to appoint an outstanding General Manager to lead the organisation into its next phase of growth.
Reporting to and working closely with the Managing Director, the General Manager will immerse themselves in the business — its people, products, culture and operating rhythms — while progressively driving business performance across the café network, Bakehouse production, catering, people, operations and support functions.
This is a role with real influence, real accountability and real proximity to the heart of the business. It is not a role for someone looking to lead from a distance.
The successful candidate will spend meaningful time in the cafés, Bakehouse and support areas; involved in the practical work of the business, listening and building a real understanding of how the brand is experienced day to day; and translating those insights into clear priorities and practical action.
The role is both commercial and cultural: strengthening financial performance, product execution, operational consistency and accountability across the leadership team, while protecting the quality, hospitality and care that make the brand distinctive.
Leading and championing the company’s 2 Second Lean program will be a core part of the role. Based on the principles of Paul Akers, it calls for a leader who can do more than endorse continuous improvement: someone who can see waste, value even the smallest improvement, encourage practical ideas from across the business and bring people together around making things better.
Your background will include current or recent experience as a General Manager, Operations Director, Head of Operations or equivalent in a substantial company-owned retail food, café, bakery, premium quick-service or closely related hospitality business.
You will have held accountability for a large workforce, commercial performance and the operational disciplines that underpin product quality, presentation, customer service, labour, stock, margins and compliance.
Candidates without meaningful experience in food, café, bakery or hospitality businesses are unlikely to be considered.
Just as importantly, the right person will be a warm, low-ego and collaborative leader, with the openness and discipline to understand the business, developing a genuine feel for the brand - the quality, service, presentation, food and customer experience that sets it apart.
You will bring commercial discipline, curiosity, practical judgement and the confidence to lead improvement, technology and innovation without losing sight of what makes the business special.
This is a rare opportunity with one of Western Australia’s most established retail food and on-premise hospitality businesses — a substantial and genuinely exciting challenge for an experienced leader with heart.
