Director of Clinical Services
Women's Health and Equality Queensland
Strengthen clinical services. Improve outcomes for women.
Women's Health and Equality Queensland (WHEQ) exists to advance the health and wellbeing of Queensland women. Our vision is for women to be equitably resourced, healthy, safe and thriving.
For more than 40 years, we've delivered counselling, recovery services, health promotion, professional education and systems change initiatives that improve the lives of women and gender-diverse people across Queensland.
We're now seeking an experienced and values-driven Director of Clinical Services to join our Executive Team.
This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of women's health in Queensland. By supporting exceptional clinicians, strengthening our services and driving continuous improvement, you'll help ensure more women can access safe, timely and high-quality support when they need it most.
About the Role
Reporting to the CEO, you'll provide strategic leadership and executive oversight across WHEQ's two flagship clinical services:
- 1800 4 WOMEN – Queensland's statewide women's health information, support and counselling service.
- Healing & Recovery – specialist counselling and recovery support for women impacted by violence, trauma and adversity.
Together, these services comprise approximately 30 clinical and support staff - more than half of WHEQ's workforce.
This role isn't about carrying a caseload. It's about creating the conditions for exceptional care. Every improvement you make has the potential to improve the lives of thousands of women across Queensland by strengthening clinical practice, reducing wait times and increasing access to support.
You'll lead clinical governance, workforce capability, service quality and continuous improvement, ensuring our services remain safe, evidence-based and responsive while improving efficiency, reducing wait times and increasing access to support.
As a member of the Executive Team, you'll contribute to organisational strategy, build partnerships across the sector and help shape the future of women's health services in Queensland.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and executive oversight of WHEQ's 1800 4 WOMEN and Healing & Recovery services.
- Strengthen clinical governance, service quality and participant safety across all therapeutic services.
- Support and strengthen workforce capability through clinical leadership, coaching and professional development.
- Lead service improvement initiatives that increase access, reduce wait times and improve outcomes for women and gender-diverse people.
- Contribute to organisational strategy, innovation and sustainable growth as a member of the Executive Team.
- Build strategic partnerships and represent WHEQ with government, health, community and funding stakeholders.
The Leader We Are Looking For
You are driven by a commitment to improving women's health and wellbeing and recognise that meaningful impact is achieved by enabling and empowering your people to perform at their best.
You balance compassion with accountability, think strategically and are confident making difficult decisions when they're needed to improve services and outcomes.
You'll bring:
- Significant senior leadership experience in health, mental health, counselling, women's health or community services.
- Experience leading clinical governance, quality and risk.
- A track record of improving service delivery, efficiency and participant outcomes.
- Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling, Nursing, Public Health or a related discipline.
- Alignment with WHEQ's values and mission
