About The Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity to join RCA in a newly created role that sits at the intersection of advocacy, engagement and public affairs.
Reporting to the Head of Policy and Public Affairs, you will lead the delivery of RCA's advocacy and stakeholder engagement strategy, translating patient stories, research and evidence into campaigns and initiatives that influence policy and improve the lives of Australians affected by rare and less common cancers.
Working closely with senior leaders across the organisation, you'll help strengthen RCA's reputation as Australia's trusted voice for rare cancers while building relationships with government, media, clinicians and key stakeholders.
This is a role where your work will directly contribute to national health policy and system change.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead advocacy and engagement initiatives that influence policy and system change.
- Transform research, patient insights and evidence into compelling advocacy content.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with government, healthcare organisations, clinicians, patient groups and other key stakeholders.
- Develop media releases, opinion pieces, briefings, speeches and campaign materials.
- Identify opportunities to increase awareness of rare and less common cancers through strategic engagement.
- Support senior leaders with high-quality briefing papers, presentations and stakeholder engagement.
- Champion authentic patient and carer voices across all advocacy activities.
- Represent RCA externally where required and contribute to organisational thought leadership.
About You
We're looking for someone who combines strategic thinking with outstanding communication skills and a genuine passion for creating positive change.
You Will Bring
- Qualifications in communications, public policy, public affairs, journalism, health, political science or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Demonstrated experience in advocacy, public affairs, stakeholder engagement, government relations or strategic communications.
- Exceptional writing skills with the ability to simplify complex policy, research and health information for different audiences.
- Experience developing advocacy campaigns or influencing public policy.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
- Excellent project management and organisational capability.
- The ability to work collaboratively while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in healthcare, cancer, patient advocacy or the not-for-profit sector will be highly regarded.
