Wellington Shire Council is seeking a strategic thinker and skilled project leader to drive the development of a suite of major community infrastructure strategies that will guide investment and decision-making across our municipality for years to come.

This is not a traditional infrastructure project role.

Instead, you will lead the review and development of key strategic planning documents that will help determine how community facilities, recreation infrastructure and community assets are planned, prioritised and delivered into the future.

Importantly, this work has been identified as a priority by Council and has a high level of interest from Councillors and the Corporate Management Team (CMT). You will have the rare opportunity to work closely with senior leaders and elected representatives helping shape strategic decisions that will have a lasting impact on communities across Wellington Shire.

About The Role

Reporting to the Manager Facilities and Emergencies, you will lead a significant program of strategic planning work focused on community infrastructure.

You Will

  • Lead the development of major community infrastructure strategies and planning frameworks.
  • Coordinate and manage specialist consultants to deliver high-quality evidence, analysis and recommendations.
  • Work closely with CMT, Councillors and internal stakeholders to guide project outcomes.
  • Facilitate stakeholder engagement and consultation activities.
  • Prepare strategic reports, recommendations and briefings for senior decision-makers.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and aligned with Council priorities.
  • Support the translation of strategic recommendations into practical actions and future work programs.

  • Experience developing strategic plans, policies or long-term planning frameworks.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to coordinate multiple priorities.
  • Experience managing consultants and stakeholder relationships.
  • Excellent written communication skills, including report and strategy development.
  • Confidence engaging with senior leaders, elected representatives and community stakeholders.
  • An understanding of local government, governance and public sector decision-making environments.
