G.J. Gardner Homes

Estimator | Shepparton

Are you an experienced Estimator, a Carpenter ready to get off the tools, or a construction professional looking to put your mark on a growing business?

G.J. Gardner Homes Shepparton is seeking a detail-oriented, highly motivated Estimator to join our successful, family-oriented team. We are a local business backed by the proven systems and market power of Australia’s most trusted national building brand. We operate with a strong family culture firmly established in our office, and we are dedicated to becoming the #1 trusted builder in our region by delivering an amazing 10/10 customer experience on every build.

Whether you are an established residential Estimator, a trade professional (like a Carpenter) looking to transition your on-site knowledge into an office, or someone from a construction or supplier background with a tech-savvy skillset, we provide the systems, direct owner support, and comprehensive training to help you succeed.

The Opportunity

As a vital member of our pre-construction team, you will be the backbone of our project cost accuracy and purchasing organisation. You will provide accurate, comprehensive cost estimations and quantity take-offs for our residential building projects. This hands-on role involves taking ownership of the estimating process, creating and distributing purchase orders, and managing our local price books to ensure all projects are completed within budget and on time for our clients.

Perks You'll Love

  • Team Work Environment: Work in a highly collaborative, team-oriented local office with direct support from the owners where your contributions are truly valued.

  • Grow & Put Your Mark on the Journey: Be a core part of a growing business where you can actively contribute to ongoing process improvements and system accuracy.

  • Great Work-Life Balance: Enjoy standard full-time office hours from

8:30am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday (a structured 38-hour work week) with no weekend work.

  • Full Training & System Support: We prioritise the right person, integrity, and a can-do attitude above all else. If you have the drive, we will fully train and teach you our industry-leading estimating software and systems.

  • Local Community and Family Environment: A local builder, using local trades and suppliers, we value our community and foster a family friendly working environment.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Cost Estimation & Take-offs: Accurately read and interpret architectural building plans to produce highly detailed, reliable material and labour estimates.

  • Price Book & Software Management: Maintain an accurate local data database, develop standard design templates, and carefully manage the local Price Book.

  • Purchase Orders & Budgeting: Generate job purchase orders with a high level of accuracy, ensuring we remain on budget and liaising with our internal construction crew, and external trades and suppliers for ongoing feedback implementation.

  • Job Control: Proactively identify potential job delays or cost variations, managing risks early in the pre-construction phase.

  • Sales Estimating: Review Sales Quotes for accuracy in conjunction with management and supply the Sales team with updated pricing tools to ensure ongoing upfront accuracy.

  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Act as a team player who collaborates seamlessly with local suppliers, subcontractors, and our internal sales, administration and construction teams to keep workflows moving forward.

  • On-Site Problem Solving: We strongly encourage you to step out of the office and visit job sites when required to investigate variances and collaborate on cost-effective solutions.

What You'll Bring

  • The Right Attitude & Character: A highly motivated professional with a proactive, "can-do" attitude, a strong sense of accountability, and a natural affinity with our core values: Act with Integrity, Practice Empathy, Strive to be Better, and Succeed through Collaboration.

  • Eagle Eye for Detail: A "measure twice, cut once" mindset. You take absolute pride in data accuracy, ensuring every nail, bolt, and hour is accounted for.

  • Tech-Savvy Aptitude: Strong computer literacy and proficiency with spreadsheets (Excel/Google Sheets). If you are a builder or supplier who is IT-smart, you will easily adapt to our estimating systems, Bluebeam or similar estimating platform experience desirable.

  • Flexible Backgrounds Considered: Demonstrated experience as a Residential or Commercial Estimator.

    • A trade background (e.g., carpentry) with a genuine desire to move into an office-based role.

    • A background with a construction supplier or building material manufacturer.

    • Draftsperson or similar experience with understanding of building plans, construction processes and procurement practices.

  • Long-Term Career Focus: A dedicated, community-oriented individual who wants a long-term role to establish themselves, learn continuously, and contribute locally to our broader franchise network.

  • Local Commitment: You must live within a reasonable, sustainable commuting distance of our

    Shepparton office.
