The Section
The Corporate Governance Section sits within the Corporate Services and Governance Division. The Section consists of around 10 ongoing staff, largely based in Canberra, responsible for the enterprise risk, business continuity, doctrine, compliance, parliamentary, planning and reporting functions.
The Opportunities
The Assistant Directors in Corporate Governance are responsible for leading key streams of work in the Section to deliver enterprise services to valued internal and external stakeholders at all levels. The work is diverse, enabling you to apply your expert knowledge of governance, planning, coordination and stakeholder engagement to a variety of activities in a fast-paced environment.
In these roles, you will provide direction to others regarding the purpose of their work, translating organisational goals into operational tasks and setting clear expectations for staff. You will gather and investigate information from a variety of sources, explore new ideas and different viewpoints, and probe information with discretion to identify critical gaps. You will maintain awareness of the organisational context and consider best-practice approaches, applying these within an approved budget position. You will also demonstrate self-awareness and sound judgement, maintaining effective performance and a forward course of action despite ambiguity and high-pressure situations.
To excel you’ll have:
- Experience effectively managing competing priorities and strategic direction, with an ability to remain calm under pressure and respond productively to change.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate information to a range of audiences, including routine written reporting to senior executives and committees.
- Proven ability to negotiate outcomes and manage complex stakeholder relationships, including across a geographically dispersed network.
- Ability to gather and investigate information from a variety of sources, explore new ideas and different viewpoints, and probe information with discretion and identify critical gaps.
- Ability to provide direction to others regarding the purpose of their work, be able to translate organisational goals into operational tasks, and set clear expectations with staff.
