Townsville Grammar School is one of the original Grammar Schools of Queensland. The Year 7-12 campus is located on the original site at North Ward. The School also operates two Junior School campuses, both offering Pre-Prep to Year 6, at Annandale and North Shore.

Townsville Grammar School is a co-educational, non-denominational School with a current enrolment of approximately 1400 students, including 120 boarders (7-12), of whom approximately 25 are international students.

As one of the eight original Grammar schools in Queensland, Townsville Grammar School was established in 1888 and has offered boarding since this time. The School has a long-standing reputation as the leading academic school in Northern Queensland, also offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme for Years 11 and 12.

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Cleaning Operations Supervisor to lead and coordinate cleaning operations across three campuses and laundry services at our North Ward campus.

This hands-on leadership role is responsible for ensuring school facilities are maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness, hygiene, safety and presentation. You will lead operational staff, oversee resources and equipment, monitor service quality, and drive continuous improvement across cleaning, laundry and waste management services.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Operations

  • Supervise and coordinate cleaning staff across three campuses and laundry staff at the North Ward campus.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership, support and operational guidance to staff.
  • Coordinate staff onboarding, induction and operational training.
  • Assist with recruitment processes in partnership with Human Resources.
  • Identify and escalate operational, safety and compliance issues.
  • Respond to and resolve day-to-day operational challenges.

Cleaning & Laundry Services

  • Ensure classrooms, offices, boarding facilities and other school areas are maintained to a consistently high standard.
  • Conduct regular inspections and quality assurance checks.
  • Coordinate effective cleaning schedules and monitor service delivery across campuses.
  • Oversee laundry operations to ensure service requirements are met efficiently and professionally.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders regarding cleaning and laundry requirements.

Resource, Compliance & Sustainability

  • Manage inventory, ordering and distribution of cleaning and laundry supplies.
  • Oversee the safe use, storage and maintenance of equipment, chemicals and materials.
  • Arrange equipment servicing and repairs as required.
  • Monitor external service providers, including waste, recycling and sanitary services.
  • Support and expand recycling and sustainability initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with WHS requirements and relevant regulations.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Experience in cleaning, facilities management or a similar operational environment.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising teams and coordinating operations across multiple sites.
  • Knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements and the safe handling of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
  • Experience in scheduling, quality control and conducting inspections.
  • Strong organisational, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Experience managing inventory, supplies and equipment maintenance.
  • The ability to work autonomously while building effective relationships with staff and stakeholders.

Essential Requirement

  • Current Driver Licence.
  • Working with Children Blue Card (or ability to obtain).
  • Valid Australian work rights.
