DEPUTY TECHNICAL LEAD

ALOIS UK

Position Overview

We’re looking for a Deputy Technical Lead based in Mumbai who can co-own technical

decisions, run design reviews, and drive execution continuity for the India-based engineering

team. This role is the on-the-ground technical leader—ensuring the Mumbai engineers have

clear direction, strong code quality, and a direct line to architectural decisions being made

across the program.

You’ll work closely with the NY-based Tech Lead and Architect, bridging time zones through

strong written communication, disciplined handoffs, and proactive leadership. You’re not just a

senior engineer who happens to be in India—you’re the person the Mumbai team looks to for

technical guidance, mentorship, and standards.

This role begins as a consulting engagement with a right-to-hire path.

What You Will Do

  • Co-own technical decisions with the Tech Lead and Architect: participate in design

reviews, ADR discussions, and pattern selection.

  • Run code/design reviews for the Mumbai team—enforcing quality, consistency, and

adherence to architectural standards.

  • Drive execution continuity across time zones: ensure work progresses smoothly

between NY and Mumbai through clear handoffs, status updates, and proactive

communication.

  • Mentor and elevate Mumbai engineers: pair on complex problems, facilitate technical

discussions, and help junior team members grow.

  • Hands-on delivery of complex features and critical-path components, setting the quality

bar through your own work.

  • Identify and escalate technical risks, blockers, and debt early—before they become

delivery problems.

  • Partner with Product and QA to ensure the team delivers features that meet acceptance

criteria and operational requirements.

  • Use AI tools to accelerate development and review, while maintaining strong

engineering judgment and validation.

What We’re Looking For

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a tech lead, team

lead, or senior mentoring role.

  • Strong Java fundamentals (Spring Boot, modern Java) and experience with architecture

fundamentals (clean architecture, domain-driven design, API design).

  • Demonstrated ability to run effective code and design reviews—you raise quality without

slowing the team down.

  • Excellent written communication: you document decisions, provide clear review

feedback, and keep distributed teams aligned.

  • Experience working across time zones with disciplined handoff practices and

asynchronous collaboration.

  • Mentoring instincts: you invest in growing the people around you and take ownership of

team capability, not just your own output.

  • Comfort with both backend services and frontend delivery (Vue.js experience pref
