Climate & Sustainability Risk Consulting Leader, Pacific

We are seeking a talented individual to join our Risk Consulting team at Marsh Risk. This role can be based in any of our Australian offices. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.
Reporting to the Climate & Sustainability Risk Consulting Leader, Asia Pacific (APAC), the Climate & Sustainability Risk Consulting Leader will lead the establishment and growth of the Pacific business. This will include financial management and delivery of the consulting pipeline, people management of a high performing consulting team and a commitment to deliver the highest quality advisory projects to assist our clients with accelerating climate risks across Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands. The successful candidate will split their time between growing the practice in Pacific including client engagement, business development and team development, and supporting delivery of regional and global projects for areas you have previous experience in, as a vital member of Marsh’s growing Climate & Sustainability practice across Asia Pacific and the APAC node of our global Climate Centre of Excellence.
The Climate & Sustainability Risk Consulting practice is split across three pillars, and you will be expected to develop projects across the spectrum whilst offering subject matter expertise for particular areas based on your previous experience. The pillars include Physical Risks and Resilience, Transition Risk and Decarbonization and Sustainability.
You will also be key member of the APAC leadership team and supported by subject matter experts across each pillar and a growing team of consultants across APAC. You will also have access to our international network of experts, across the entirety of Marsh including Oliver Wyman, Mercer and Guy Carpenter.
We will count on you to
- Build Marsh Climate & Sustainability’s external presence and visibility in Pacific by engaging in external forums, contributing to thought leadership, and developing industry networks.
- Expand the Pacific consulting business by growing revenue and hiring and developing junior consultants.
- Lead and contribute to consulting projects across Asia Pacific where you have established credibility and experience.
- Develop strong internal networks across Marsh Australia and New Zealand and the broader region so that client executives and senior management are aware of our capabilities and how we can assist clients.
- Manage and deliver climate risk advisory services including risk identification, climate scenario analysis (transition and physical) and climate reporting.
- Manage and deliver sustainability advisory services, identifying client’s problems, synthesizing core issues and developing innovative solutions that integrate the wide set of disciplines and expertise required for complex sustainability challenges.
- Develop relevant recommendations and solutions to enhance the management of sustainability and climate risk in a range of formats including reports, presentations and workshops both in-person and virtually.
- Apply strong communications and influencing skills – capable of presenting complex analytical topics across all levels of an organization including senior stakeholders (boards of directors and C-suite).
What you need to have
- 10+ years relevant experience in climate risk or sustainability either in consulting or in-house – position will match level of experience
- Proven experience in building a consulting pipeline and business development, preferably in Australia
- Awareness and experience in the concepts and application of relevant international frameworks e.g. GRI, SASB, ISO14001, GHG Principles, SBTi, IFRS, TNFD
- Degree in business, environmental science or management, engineering or other academic field relevant to sustainability
- Ability to provide professional advice to clients in developing and adjusting project approaches, methodology and tools to guide risk programs and initiatives
What makes you stand out
- Experience in key industries such as energy and power, manufacturing, or financial institutions.
- Experience in emerging climate themes in sustainability-linked / climate / adaptation finance, energy transition, and decarbonization.
- An understanding of the science of climate change, including the application and interpretation of GCMs, RCMs, down-scaling methods, catastrophe modelling et al.
- Exceptional client management skills.
- Team development experience including hiring and onboarding of new consultants and ongoing people management.
- Flexibility and adaptability to take on tasks that may be outside your comfort zone.
- Experience with natural catastrophe models and insurance related concepts including parametric solutions.
- Postgraduate degree such as an MBA or Master’s degree in an academic field relevant to sustainability or specific accreditations e.g. GARP SCR.
