What’s the job?
The Senior Data Governance Analyst supports the implementation and operationalisation of Torrens University’s Data Governance Framework. The role works across business and technology teams to establish core governance capabilities, including business glossary, metadata management, data lineage, and data quality.
This is a hands-on role combining governance coordination with practical data analysis, profiling, validation, and issue investigation to improve data quality across enterprise datasets.
The position partners with Data Engineering, BI/Analytics, and business stakeholders to embed governance practices into data platforms and day-to-day usage, translating business requirements into defined data rules, controls, and governance artefacts to support a trusted and well-governed data environment.
Principal accountabilities (but not limited ot)
Data Governance Framework Implementation
Support the rollout and adoption of the Data Governance Framework across priority domains
Define and document data ownership roles, including Data Sponsors and Data Stewards
Business Glossary and Metadata Management
Define and document business terms, KPIs, and critical data elements with stakeholders
Build and maintain the business glossary within agreed data governance tooling
Data Lineage and Documentation
Document end-to-end data lineage across source systems, pipelines, and reporting layers
Collaborate with Data Engineering to capture lineage across ingestion and transformation processes
Data Quality Management and Profiling
Perform data profiling to assess completeness, accuracy, consistency, and timeliness
Conduct data analysis using SQL and relevant tools to validate data and identify anomalies
Data Quality Issue Management and Remediation
Coordinate resolution of data quality issues with Data Stewards and operational teams
Support root cause analysis across systems, processes, and data flows
Collaboration with Data Engineering and Platform Teams
Embed governance requirements, including metadata, lineage, and data quality controls, into data pipelines
Support governance requirements for new data ingestion and reporting initiatives
Stakeholder Engagement and Governance Enablement
Act as a key point of contact for data governance across business and technical stakeholders
Facilitate workshops to define data rules, standards, and quality requirements
Who you are
Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Data, Business, or related field
Certifications or training in Data Governance, Data Governance tools and platforms, Data Management (DAMA), or Data Quality (desirable)
5–8 years’ experience in data governance, data quality, data analysis, or data business analysis roles.
Strong SQL and data analysis experience across large and complex datasets, including data profiling, validation, reconciliation, and root cause analysis
Experience working with business stakeholders to define data requirements, business terms, KPIs, and data quality rules.
Strong experience facilitating workshops and translating business needs into structured data definitions, data quality rules, and controls practical experience with, or strong exposure to, data governance and metadata management tools (e.g. Collibra, Informatica, Microsoft Purview, Atlan, Alation, IBM Data Governance, or similar)
Experience working within modern data platforms and analytics environments, including data warehouses, data lakes, and cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP)
Familiarity with relational databases (e.g. SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL)
This is a full-time permanent role with hybrid flexibility and is based at our Surry Hills Campus in Sydney.
