What you’ll be doing
As our Assistant Accountant, you will work closely with the Finance Manager to support the financial operations of the business. Your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with monthly management accounts, financial reporting, and month-end/year-end close processes
- Preparing journals, accruals, prepayments, and general ledger and balance sheet reconciliations
- Ensuring accuracy and integrity of financial data across all reporting activities
- Preparing and lodging BAS, payroll tax, and other statutory compliance requirements
- Maintaining fixed asset registers and depreciation schedules
- Supporting budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow reporting
- Assisting with audit preparation and year-end financial reporting
- Providing financial analysis to support business decision-making
- Supporting Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable functions to ensure timely processing and collections/payments
- Assisting with payroll reconciliations, superannuation, and employee-related reporting
- Identifying and contributing to improvements in financial processes, systems, and controls
- Supporting the wider finance team during peak periods and collaborating with project managers and business leaders to provide financial insight and guidance
About You
- To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
- A degree in Accounting, Commerce or Finance 3+ years’ experience in an Assistant Accountant or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and Australian taxation requirements.
- Excellent Microsoft Excel skills and confidence using financial systems (Xero and Employment Hero Preferable).
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills and a proactive, solutions-focused approach.
