Northern Health are seeking applications from motivated and suitably experienced Unaccredited AGSU/Vascular Surgery Registrar . to join the 2027 Medical Year.
Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne’s rapidly growing outer north.
Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn and Mernda Community Hospitals and Kilmore District Hospital. In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park, Mernda and Coburg.
About the Role
This position is a 12-month fixed term role with 6 months in Vascular Surgery and 6 months in the Acute General Surgery Unit (AGSU).
This role will include times working independently and as part of a team. There may be requirements to cover unexpected leave across the Division of Surgery.
The Vascular Surgery Unit at Northern Health provides elective and 24/7 emergency care for patients in the northern catchment of Melbourne. The vascular surgical unit comprises of seven surgical consultants. This role will require being available for the on-call roster.
The vascular unit at the Northern is well poised to offer a suitable candidate excellent exposure to the speciality with the availability of two hybrid surgical theatres and a diversity of open, endovascular and hybrid procedures offered.
Currently there is a 1 in 5 on call roster.
The Acute General Surgery unit (AGSU) manages emergency referrals to Northern Health primarily through the Emergency Department but also from units from all campuses within Northern Health, designed to enhance access and patient flow through the ED. AGSU has access to sub-speciality general services; day-to-day staffing includes a GSET trainee, 4 NSET trainees, residents and interns. The ASGU unit is also serviced by unit fellows that help with the on-call.
There will be participation in sick leave on-call roster. This will only be to cover leave needed within AGSU.
AGSU unit is a busy general surgery unit that provides excellent exposure to a vast variety of presentations through the emergency department. There is dedicated AGSU theatre on weekdays. This offers suitable candidates’ excellent exposure to all emergency general surgery operating. The candidates will be able to procedural skills and professional capabilities required to apply for specialty training programs. The suitable candidates will also be able to participate in unit research activities to help bolster their CV.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Australian citizen, or holder of valid working VISA/ability to apply
- Holder of current AHPRA registration or equivalent/eligible to apply
- Proven knowledge and experience applicable to surgical registrar role
