SafeWork NSW is the state's workplace health and safety regulator. Our mission is to reduce work-related fatalities, injuries and illnesses by ensuring workplaces comply with health and safety laws. We achieve this through a mix of responsive and proactive programs targeting high-risk areas across all industries, aligned with our strategic plan and regulatory priorities.
About the role
Lead a newly established Data Architecture and Engineering team shaping how data is managed, governed and delivered across SafeWork NSW. The team will be responsible for building and maintaining the data that underpins reporting, insights and decision-making. From onboarding new datasets to improving data quality and governance, the team plays a critical role in designing robust governance processes and developing outcomes to support the business.
As the Manager, Data Architecture and Engineering, you will work to implement a team focused on delivering fit-for-purpose, data solutions aligned with strategic priorities and best practice architecture. This role will be responsible for but not limited to;
- The design and management of data platforms, pipelines and processes, ensuring data is structured, reliable and ready to support reporting and business insights.
- Act as the technical authority for the data environment, translating business needs into scalable data solutions.
- Uplifting capability across the organisation, partnering closely with reporting teams, shaping staging layers and enabling high-quality, accessible data.
- Defining the structure and bringing together the capability needed to deliver strong business outcomes.

About You
We are seeking a highly technical data leader with expertise in data architecture and engineering across complex environments. You will be able to demonstrate;
- Hands-on knowledge of modern platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks and API management
- A solid understanding of best practice data architecture and data governance.
- Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, business-aligned solutions and ensuring data structures support meaningful outcomes.
- Confident working across end-to-end data lifecycles and bringing Executive Leadership along the way.
- Understand how data design impacts reporting, insights and decision-making.
- Balancing technical excellence with real-world needs. Operating in ambiguity, building capability from the ground up and driving alignment across stakeholders.
- Experience developing a team and delivering modern, high-performing data sets to align with business outcomes.
