Project Manager | QLD Government Infrastructure
- Location: Portsmith, QLD (Cairns region)
- Classification: AO6.1
- Contract Duration: 6-Month Contract (Immediate start available through to late December 2026)
- Work Type: Full time hours
Randstad are proud to partner with the leading provider of construction and strategic building maintenance services for the Queensland Government.
We are seeking an adaptable and driven Project Manager to spearhead diverse building and infrastructure projects across the Far North Queensland region. If you want a role where you can see the direct impact of your work on the local community, this is it.
The Opportunity
In this role, you won’t just be sitting behind a desk monitoring spreadsheets. You will be the central pivot point for the entire project lifecycle, from initial pre-design and contract administration straight through to post-construction handover. You will act as the key daily contact for government clients, ensuring projects are delivered on scope, on time, and within commercial profitability targets.
What You’ll Do
- End-to-End Delivery: Manage all phases of building project implementation (design, documentation, contract administration, and handover).
- Stakeholder & Contractor Management: Lead negotiations with external consultants, contractors, local authorities, and departmental stakeholders to achieve value-for-money solutions.
- Financial & Quality Control: Track project health, manage cash flows, control variances via exception reporting, and assist senior leadership with fee structures and client billing.
- Team Collaboration: Coordinate internal project staff, business units, and external contractors to keep everyone aligned and engaged.
What You Bring to the Table
We are looking for a proactive professional who understands the unique landscape of Far North Queensland and knows how to navigate complex project environments.
Mandatory
- Proven Project Management Experience: A solid track record of delivering building or infrastructure projects from concept to completion.
Other Requirements
- Deep familiarity with the FNQ region and its unique local challenges/opportunities.
- An uncompromising commitment to Workplace Health & Safety (WHS).
- A valid Driver’s Licence (for site visits and stakeholder meetings).
- Strong commercial acumen with experience in both traditional and non-traditional contract systems.
It is expected that the successful candidate will possess strong oral/written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills. They will display initiative, attention to detail, and have the ability to work autonomously and unsupervised whilst contributing to the wider team's objectives of ensuring service delivery exceeds expectations.
