About the opportunity

As our Student Advising team continues to grow, we're seeking a Senior Coordinator to lead this newly established function and help shape the future of student support within the College of Business and Law.

As the Senior Coordinator, Student Advising, you'll lead the delivery of high-quality, holistic advising services for students and key stakeholders. You'll drive collaboration, continuous improvement and evidence-informed practice to ensure student and stakeholder needs are met. You'll provide day-to-day supervision, coaching and performance oversight of the Student Advisors, ensuring the delivery of timely, consistent, high-quality and accurate information, advice and support across the student lifecycle, aligned with College priorities, RMIT Connect and broader University policies and processes.

You'll exercise substantial professional judgement to oversee both administrative and developmental advising practice, ensuring advising approaches empower students to clarify their academic, personal and career aspirations, connect with appropriate support services, recognise and navigate barriers to success, and develop effective action plans. You'll monitor staff performance against agreed benchmarks, lead capability building and professional development initiatives for the advising team, and ensure accurate advising records, reporting and compliance with ethical and professional standards.

As an active member of the broader Student Lifecycle & Experience leadership team, you'll work closely with Managers and other leaders to ensure student-centred advising and customer service remain at the forefront of all processes, systems and initiatives. You'll design and coordinate advising programs and interventions, contribute to policy and process improvement, and lead cultural and work practice changes that support operational objectives, enhance student engagement, success and retention, and strengthen collaboration with Schools, central services and other stakeholders.

To be successful in this role, you'll have:

  • A passion for delivering exceptional student-centred services, with experience leading advising, customer service or student support teams in a complex environment.

  • Proven experience coaching, mentoring and developing staff while fostering a positive, high-performing and values-driven team culture.

  • Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across Schools, central services and other stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes.

  • The ability to analyse data, policy and best practice to identify opportunities for improvement and implement initiatives that enhance the student experience.

  • Excellent judgement, initiative and problem-solving skills, with the confidence to manage competing priorities and navigate complex student matters.

  • Strong written communication skills, including experience preparing reports, recommendations, briefings and other professional documentation for a range of audiences.

  • Experience leading continuous improvement initiatives and embedding new ways of working that improve service quality, consistency and efficiency.

  • Confidence working with digital technologies, case management systems and data tools, and supporting others to adopt new systems and ways of working.

Desirable

  • Demonstrated awareness of, and strong knowledge in, contemporary student advising theories and approaches, including appreciative and developmental advising, strengths‑based advising, and advising as teaching, with the ability to integrate these frameworks into practice to foster student agency, belonging, academic success and holistic development across diverse postgraduate and undergraduate cohorts.
