Independent Medical Examiner (IME) Lead – Health & Recovery
- $152,556 per annum + 12% superannuation
- Full time, fixed term to 30/06/2027
- Wadawurrung/Geelong based role (hybrid work from home – 3 days a week in office)
About the opportunity
The IME Lead is responsible for supporting the Health & Recovery division in the effective management and operation of WorkSafe’s Independent Medical Examiner function. The role supports the delivery of high-quality, timely and consistent IME services that enable sound clinical decision-making, support scheme objectives and contribute to improved recovery outcomes.
The position plays a key role in coordinating IME panel activities, including recruitment, credentialing, access, quality assurance, issue resolution and continuous improvement. The IME Lead works collaboratively across Health & Recovery and with Agents and external medical practitioners to ensure the IME framework operates efficiently, ethically and in line with legislative, policy and governance requirements.
Key accountabilities
- Maintain expertise and market knowledge of the IME market across Victoria, inter-state and federally to enable alignment opportunities, alternative courses of action on the provision of products and services as it relates to an injured workers recovery
- Support the recruitment, onboarding, credentialing and maintenance of the Independent Medical Examiner panel, ensuring panel composition aligns with scheme needs, quality standards and access requirements.
- Coordinate IME access and capacity across specialties, including monitoring demand, identifying gaps and supporting initiatives to improve timeliness and availability.
- Manage day-to-day coordination activities associated with the IME function, including responding to queries from Agents, providers and internal stakeholders.
- Support quality assurance activities for IMEs, including monitoring performance, compliance with requirements, and contributing to review and improvement processes.

A strategic and collaborative leader, you bring extensive experience in leadership and change management, with demonstrated success leading projects and initiatives in dynamic environments. You possess exceptional organisational, prioritisation and time management skills, enabling you to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes within tight timeframes. Your communication skills are outstanding, with the ability to prepare and present complex reports, briefs, presentations, training materials and strategic communications for diverse audiences.
You have extensive experience across the full project lifecycle, including project planning and delivery, risk assessment, gap analysis, continuous improvement initiatives and the application of agile project methodologies. You are analytical by nature and able to leverage research, stakeholder feedback and business intelligence to develop effective guidance materials, policies, procedures and operational solutions.
Technically proficient, you possess a strong understanding of legal, policy and operational environments and have a demonstrated ability to deliver programs of work informed by evidence, customer needs and strategic objectives. You are highly skilled in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project and Outlook, as well as Salesforce, and are committed to fostering continuous improvement and quality outcomes across all aspects of your work.
