Eastern Health

Eastern Health is one of Melbourne’s largest public health services. We provide a range of emergency, surgical, medical and general healthcare services and have a proud history of serving a diverse community.

Our Employee Value Proposition is “Being a part of Eastern Health means belonging to a welcoming team of healthcare experts”.

This statement aligns with our promise to our communities, patients, consumers and staff that we will be HEALTHIER TOGETHER. Bolder than a vision for the future, our promise calls us to action. We know that working together is the only way we can achieve what is necessary for a healthier future.

About the role

The Senior Consumer Peer Support Worker brings a complementary lived experience perspective to clinical care within an early psychosis framework. Through structured peer support, the role supports young people experiencing early psychosis to navigate their recovery journeys, drawing on shared experience to foster connection, understanding and hope.

Our Lived Experience Workforce (LEW) is a non-clinical team that operates across various clinical settings, including Crisis Assessment Treatment Teams, Acute Inpatient Units, Emergency Departments, Community Teams, and Rehabilitation Services within our Mental Health & Wellbeing Program.

The position empowers young people to make informed choices about their care, build self-determination, and reconnect with meaningful roles, relationships and community participation. The role supports recovery oriented practice by promoting personal strengths, identity development, and future planning in the context of early intervention.

The Senior Consumer Peer Support Worker works collaboratively with multidisciplinary staff and management to ensure the best possible outcomes for young people engaged with ICHYMS. This includes contributing to care planning, advocating for the consumer voice, and supporting a recovery-oriented culture within the team.

The role also requires the ability to work independently, demonstrating autonomous and accountable practice within agreed Models of Care, while maintaining strong communication and collaboration with the broader clinical team.
