About the RoleWe are seeking an experienced and leadership-driven Project Manager to join our Defence client based in Adelaide’s Northern Suburbs. In this permanent, full-time role, you will be responsible for leading complex systems development projects from inception through to completion. You will manage project schedules, budgets and risks while fostering strong relationships with defence customers, sub-contractors and internal engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning & Financial Management

  • Manage comprehensive project plans, estimates, cost accounts and schedules to successfully meet all contract objectives.
  • Establish, manage and report on project budgets, proactively identifying and managing variances.
  • Evaluate and maintain project control processes, utilising specialized project management software and tools.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Manage and lead multi-disciplinary teams across complex, large-scale projects.
  • Provide clear leadership, strategic direction and effective delegation to the Project Management Team.
  • Foster a collaborative team environment that promotes cooperation both within and between departments.

Stakeholder Management & Governance

  • Lead and present project performance updates at Management Meetings, Gate Reviews, Customer Reviews and Progress Meetings.
  • Maintain exceptional working relationships with all key stakeholders, including defence customers, sub-contractors and suppliers.
  • Establish, negotiate and manage sub-contracts and licensing arrangements, including the management of Intellectual Property (IP).

Compliance & Continuous Improvement

  • Identify, mitigate and actively manage project risks throughout the systems development lifecycle.
  • Ensure strict compliance with relevant legislation, duty of care, safety standards, non-discrimination policies and company management systems.
  • Provide continuous improvement inputs to the organisation's Project Management processes, tools and templates.

Skills and Personal Attributes

  • Leadership & Motivation: Proven ability to lead, coordinate and motivate staff within a fast-paced team environment.
  • Financial Literacy: Strong financial acumen with the ability to forecast, manage budgets and apply Earned Value Management (EVM) techniques.
  • Project Controls: Deep understanding of project planning, scheduling and strict adherence to project timeframes.
  • Communication & Negotiation: Excellent internal and external customer liaison, negotiation and dispute resolution skills.
  • Technical & Process Understanding: Solid understanding of the lifecycle of complex systems development projects.
  • Problem Solving: Superior problem-solving skills with the ability to develop creative and innovative solutions to complex challenges.
  • Documentation: Proven experience in producing, reviewing and maintaining high-quality project documentation.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Project Management Experience: A minimum of 3 to 8+ years of hands-on project management and leadership experience.
  • Systems Development Experience: Demonstrated experience working within complex Systems Development environments.
