Transient Detect is an angel-backed IoT/AI start-up protecting and extending the life of critical water infrastructure. Through its ruggedised TD.Edge sensors and TD.Cloud AI analytics platform, Transient Detect helps water utilities make hidden destructive forces visible, converting high-frequency pressure data into pipe fatigue, leak detection and asset risk intelligence.

As Product Designer, you will be Transient Detect’s first dedicated design hire, responsible for owning the UI/UX of TD.Cloud and shaping how complex, data-dense network intelligence is presented to technical users. This role will focus heavily on making technical information clear, usable and trustworthy for utility engineers, asset planners and internal technical teams working with time-series data, risk insights, AI outputs and engineering-grade dashboards

.This is not a generalist visual design role, but rather a hands-on opportunity to build the design function inside a technically deep, early-stage company. You will work closely with the Founder & CEO, Product Manager, AI Engineer and engineering team to translate complex IoT and software data into product experiences that help users understand, investigate and act on critical infrastructure risk

What you’ll do:

  • Own the UI/UX design of TD.Cloud, including event exploration, classification workflows, fatigue and asset-risk dashboards, alerting and reporting.
  • Design data-dense product experiences that make time-series data, risk matrices, geospatial views and technical outputs easy to understand and act on.
  • Translate complex IoT, AI and engineering concepts into clear product workflows for technical users.
  • Design how AI outputs, confidence levels, and human-in-the-loop review appear within the platform.
  • Build and maintain the TD design system, including components, patterns and accessibility standards.
  • Prototype interactive product experiences using Figma, with HTML/CSS prototyping highly regarded.
  • Support the company’s visual identity across the website, sales collateral, pilot proposals, conference material and investor-facing documents.

Nice to have:

  • Experience designing for IoT, utilities, infrastructure, engineering or science-heavy products.
  • Exposure to technical SaaS platforms, analytics tools, monitoring systems, cyber platforms or other data-heavy products.
  • Experience designing AI product features, including confidence displays or review workflows.
  • A background or qualification in engineering, science, environmental studies or another technical discipline.
  • Ability to prototype or ship front-end code using HTML, CSS, React or TypeScript.
  • Experience working as a sole designer, founding designer or in a high-ownership 0-to-1 product environment.

About You:

  • Demonstrated product design experience across B2B SaaS, with a portfolio showing data-dense, dashboard-heavy or technical product work.
  • Strong data literacy and the ability to understand how complex data should be structured, layered and presented to technical audiences.
  • Comfortable working with engineers, product teams and technical stakeholders to unpack complex concepts and turn them into clear user experiences.
  • Able to design for users who need accuracy, trust, context and speed when interpreting technical information.
  • Confident using AI tools as part of your design workflow across research, ideation, prototyping and production.
  • Comfortable operating with ambiguity, pace and accountability in an early-stage start-up environment.
  • Practical, curious and resilient, with the appetite to roll up your sleeves and build the design function from the ground up.

This role will suit a product designer with strong data literacy, technical curiosity and the ability to make complex information clear for engineering and infrastructure users.
