Our City Operations Portfolio, located at Golden Grove, delivers frontline services that support our community every day. An exciting opportunity exists to join our Civil Maintenance team as a Street Sweeper Operator, supporting the delivery of clean, safe and well maintained streets and public spaces across the City.
About the role
Reporting to the Team Leader Civil Maintenance, this position is responsible for improving the amenity throughout Council through the safe operation of street sweepers and the delivery of programmed and reactive street sweeping services.
Key responsibilities:
- Safe operation of street sweepers in line with the Street Sweeping work schedules
- Using Council's digital reporting system to record zones swept and obstructions
- Operating plant and equipment safely under Safe Work Procedures
- Disposal of street sweeping waste at an approved Council site
- Responding to customer service requests, environmental spills and traffic accidents
- Completing pre operation checks, including brushes, lubrication, tyres, oil, coolants and workshop servicing
- Mentoring and coaching new team members
- Working collaboratively, following policies and reporting risks

About you
We're looking for someone who has:
- Demonstrated experience operating heavy plant, mobile plant or street sweeping equipment in a civil maintenance, local government or similar operational environment.
- Capability to drive a street sweeper effectively for long periods of time, with sound judgement, initiative and practical problem solving skills.
- Strong commitment to Work Health and Safety, safe plant operation, hazard reporting and working responsibly around traffic, pedestrians and the community.
- Sound mechanical awareness, with the ability to complete pre start checks, identify equipment issues and report defects promptly.
- Good planning, communication, customer service and IT skills, including the ability to use corporate systems for day to day work activities.
- Willingness to participate in a rotating shift roster and a stand by roster for occasional out of hours callout work.
The successful candidate will also have:
- A current MR licence
- Work safely in the construction industry (White Card)
- Willingness to undergo a pre-employment medical and national police check

Salary range is between $76,590 and $77,848 plus superannuation guarantee and will be negotiated commensurate with skills, experience and qualifications.
