The Position

King’s College, one of Australia’s pre-eminent residential colleges, seeks to appoint a Deputy Head of College. The Deputy Head of College will oversee the student journey from pre-admission through to alumni engagement, ensuring a cohesive and high-quality experience across admissions, pastoral care, discipline, and co-curricular programming. Working closely with the Head of College and other colleagues, the Deputy Head of College will contribute to leading the life of the college and a holistic student experience.

The Deputy Head of College will bring both strategic insight and hands on leadership to a complex, fast paced residential college environment, demonstrating clear alignment with the College’s ethos of respect, dignity, inclusion, and academic excellence. The appointee will be an experienced, values driven higher education leader who will combine strong operational capability with a deep commitment to student development, wellbeing, and community. They will demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of university student life, the developmental needs of young adults, and of residential collegiate education.

The successful candidate will understand the critical relationship between wellbeing and academic success and will bring practical experience in fostering safe, inclusive, and respectful communities. They will show confidence in addressing contemporary issues affecting students, including mental health, gender-based violence, and broader wellbeing challenges, and will lead both preventative strategies and appropriate responses to incidents. A defining attribute of the appointee will be a strong commitment to student wellbeing and duty of care.

The Organisation

Founded in 1912, King’s College is a thriving values-based residential academic community within the University of Queensland (UQ) supporting 342 resident university students and some 100 Associate Members, King’s College offers some of the best facilities of any residential college in Australia, including a dedicated Learning Centre, gym, rowing shed, swimming pool, and fully furnished rooms.

The College provides a comprehensive range of academic programs and services designed to support students in achieving their academic goals, including more than 100 tutorials per week delivered by over 60 tutors.
