Job Summary

This role requires strong expertise in PSCAD EMT modelling, power system analysis, and grid compliance. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting projects from feasibility and connection application stages through GPS approval, commissioning, registration, and ongoing compliance.

Experienced Power Systems Engineer with expertise in PSCAD for power system modelling, simulation, and analysis. Skilled in developing detailed electromagnetic transient (EMT) models of transmission networks, renewable energy systems, HVDC systems, FACTS devices, and power electronic converters. Proficient in performing system studies to evaluate network performance, compliance, stability, and system disturbances.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, validate, and maintain PSCAD models for power generation, transmission, and distribution systems.
  • Perform electromagnetic transient (EMT) studies including switching events, faults, protection coordination, and power quality assessments.
  • Lead Generator Performance Standards (GPS) negotiations, and grid connection activities for utility-scale renewable energy, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), hybrid projects, and large industrial connections.
  • Model renewable energy plants, battery energy storage systems (BESS), inverter-based resources (IBRs), and grid-connected converters.
  • Conduct system impact assessments and grid compliance studies in accordance with industry standards and utility requirements.
  • Analyze power system performance during disturbances, fault conditions, and dynamic operating scenarios.
  • Support design verification and optimization of electrical infrastructure projects.
  • Collaborate with protection, control, and commissioning engineers to validate system behaviour.
  • Prepare technical reports, simulation results, and recommendations for clients and stakeholders.
  • Interface with utilities, consultants, and project teams to ensure successful project delivery.

  • Evaluated grid compliance requirements and provided technical recommendations for project approvals.
  • Supported design and commissioning activities through simulation-based validation of control and protection schemes.
  • Produced technical reports and presented findings to project stakeholders and utility representatives.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Master's Degree in Power Systems Engineering preferred.
  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng), NER, RPEQ, or equivalent desirable.
  • Minimum 8-12 years of experience in power systems engineering and grid connections.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering grid connection outcomes for utility-scale generation projects.
