About The Opportunity

Business Review Group (BRG) is seeking an experienced Cost Modeller to support the GWEO Air Branch Program Executive Office (PEO) within the Department of Defence.

This position provides specialist financial management, cost estimation and pricing support across a portfolio of Australia's most significant Guided Weapons & Explosive Ordnance (GWEO) capability programs.

Working within the Program Executive Office's shared services team, you will deliver high-quality cost analysis, financial modelling and commercial advice that supports Defence acquisition and sustainment activities, enabling informed investment decisions and successful program delivery.

This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced Defence cost professional to contribute to nationally significant capability programs while working across multiple complex acquisition projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain detailed cost models supporting Defence capability acquisition and sustainment programs.
  • Prepare whole-of-life cost estimates, budget forecasts and financial modelling outputs.
  • Conduct complex financial analysis, cost normalisation and pricing investigations.
  • Analyse supplier pricing proposals and support tender evaluation activities.
  • Assess labour rates, escalation factors, cost breakdown structures and price reasonableness.
  • Prepare financial inputs for Government submissions, business cases and major milestone approvals.
  • Monitor financial performance and provide advice on budgets, forecasts and expenditure.
  • Assist with budget development and financial reporting in accordance with Defence's Resource Management Framework.
  • Identify and assess financial risks, assumptions and cost drivers.
  • Produce financial reports, briefings and recommendations for senior Defence stakeholders.
  • Prepare inputs for Independent Cost Estimates (ICE) and other financial assurance activities.
  • Support contract negotiations through detailed pricing and commercial analysis.
  • Provide specialist financial advice to support commercial negotiations and acquisition decision-making.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of pricing methodologies, financial modelling techniques, cost estimation practices and financial management processes.
  • Work collaboratively across Integrated Project Teams (IPTs), commercial teams and program stakeholders to deliver consistent financial assurance.

About You

You will bring demonstrated experience within Defence, government or another complex project environment, with the ability to analyse financial information and develop robust cost estimates that support informed decision-making.

You will ideally have experience in:

  • Defence cost modelling, cost estimation or financial analysis.
  • Developing detailed financial models and whole-of-life cost estimates.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and financial modelling techniques.
  • Defence acquisition, sustainment or complex government capability programs.
  • Pricing analysis, tender evaluations and commercial costing.
  • Preparing financial inputs for Government submissions, business cases, Gate reviews or major investment decisions.
  • Working within structured governance, assurance and financial management frameworks.
  • Communicating complex financial information clearly to technical and executive stakeholders.

Highly developed analytical skills, exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple projects will be essential to success in this role.
