Rating Officer - Specialist

The Hills Shire Council is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our Rates Team in a specialist support role. In this position, you will play an important part in delivering accurate, efficient and customer-focused rates services to our community. You will be involved in processing, monitoring and administering Council rates and annual charges, responding to customer enquiries, maintaining accurate records and supporting database management. This is a great opportunity to contribute to a supportive team while developing your knowledge of Council policies, procedures and rating requirements under the Local Government Act and Local Government General Regulations.

What this role looks like
• Process rates related activities, including but not limited to:
• Notices of sale
• Processing and issue S603 Certificates
• Waste management charges
• Direct debit applications & payment processing
• Assessment of ratepayer overpayments & processing of refunds
• Pensioner rebate processing & validation
• Reconciliation of Rating System to Rates General Ledger Accounts & Valuer General Valuations
• Investigate and maintain returned rate notices/mail
• General rating tasks and enquiries & Investigations
• Driver’s License (Class C) – NSW
• 3 + years rating experience in Local Government
• Intermediate skills in Excel and Microsoft Office Tools
• High level communication and organisation skills including correspondence, analytical & interpersonal skills
• Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
• A thorough knowledge & understanding of Local Government Rating Legislation, Valuation of Land Act and other related legislation
