SENIOR ESTIMATOR

Be the driving force behind winning iconic projects

About MCM

Main On Construction & Maintenance Pty Ltd (MCM) is a proudly Australian-owned family business with over 30 years of experience delivering high-quality remedial, construction, maintenance, fit-out, and defect rectification solutions. We manage every stage of a project, from inception to delivery, for commercial, residential, and institutional clients across Sydney.

The Role

We are seeking an exceptional, high-performing Senior Estimator, a true industry gun who can confidently prepare and deliver high-quality quotes and tenders at pace while maintaining outstanding accuracy. This is a pivotal role in our growth strategy. You will be responsible for pricing a diverse pipeline of remedial, construction, fit-out, maintenance, and defect rectification projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed, competitive lump sum, schedule of rates, and tender submissions across all MCM service lines (Remedial, Construction, Fit-out, Maintenance, Defect Rectification).
  • Review tender documents, drawings, specifications, and scopes of work to identify requirements, risks, and opportunities.
  • Conduct site inspections, measurements, and digital take-offs to produce accurate quantities.
  • Source, analyse, and negotiate competitive subcontractor and supplier pricing.
  • Build and maintain a dynamic, MCM-specific cost database and unit rate library informed by real project delivery data.
  • Collaborate closely with Project Managers, Allocation Manager, and site teams to ensure estimates reflect our actual capabilities and methodologies.
  • Immerse yourself in all aspects of MCM’s operations so you can tender with genuine understanding of how we deliver projects efficiently and profitably.
  • Identify value engineering opportunities and provide commercial input during tender and pre-construction phases.
  • Support post-tender clarifications, presentations, and seamless handover to delivery teams.
  • Monitor industry pricing trends, labour availability, and material costs to keep estimates current and competitive.

What We are looking for

You are a confident, accurate, and fast estimator who thrives under pressure and consistently delivers winning or near-winning submissions.

  • 5–15+ years’ experience as an Estimator in Australian construction, with proven strength in remedial works, defect rectification, fit-outs, refurbishments, or general building/maintenance projects (NSW experience highly regarded).
  • Demonstrated track record of preparing high-quality, competitive tenders that win work or achieve strong margins.
  • Exceptional ability to “smash out” multiple accurate quotes and tenders to tight deadlines without compromising quality.
  • Advanced skills reading and interpreting complex drawings, specifications, and tender documents.
  • Strong commercial acumen with deep understanding of construction costs, productivity, subcontractor markets, and risk pricing in the Sydney market.
  • High proficiency in estimating/takeoff software. We will buy whatever you need, state your preference.
  • Solid knowledge of Australian Standards, NCC, and NSW building regulations, particularly around defect identification and rectification tolerances.
  • Excellent written communication for clear, professional tender submissions and client correspondence.
  • Proactive collaborator who will spend time with our project teams and on site to truly understand how MCM operates.
  • Relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Building, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Current White Card and full NSW driver’s licence.
  • Bonus: Experience with insurance repair estimating, strata remedial projects, or heritage works.

Why Join MCM?

  • Work on high-profile, iconic Sydney projects.
  • We invest in tools and technology, tell us what you need and we buy it.
  • Competitive, above-market remuneration package for the right high-performer.
  • Opportunity to grow with the business, clear path toward Estimating Manager or broader commercial leadership.
  • Supportive team, professional environment, and the satisfaction of seeing your estimates turn into successfully delivered projects.
  • Company vehicle, laptop, phone, and other benefits to be negotiated.
