Position: Family Violence Support Worker

Location: Mackay

Status: Part‑Time, Permanent — 19 hrs/week

Step into a role that changes lives. As a Family Violence Support Worker, you’ll be part of a specialist team providing crisis response, safety planning and case management for victim‑survivors accessing The Salvation Army Family Violence Services.

You’ll help deliver safe, high‑quality, client‑led support, ensuring women and children are supported with risk, safety and recovery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate support — Offer a warm, trauma‑informed and responsive welcome to clients arriving in crisis, ensuring they feel safe, heard and supported from the very first interaction.
  • Respond to urgent needs and safety risks — Quickly identify and supporting in addressing immediate safety, wellbeing and practical needs, contributing to safety planning that protects women and children in high‑risk situations.
  • Work collaboratively to support victim-survivors — Partner with specialist practitioners to assess, manage and monitor high‑risk situations, ensuring decisions are informed, coordinated and aligned with best‑practice FV responses.
  • Build empowering, trust‑based relationships — Develop strong, respectful connections with clients that promote self‑determination, dignity and confidence, supporting them to take control of their own recovery journey.
  • Implement client‑led case plans — Support the delivery of personalised case plans that reflect each client’s goals, needs and safety priorities, following TSA’s case management frameworks and practice standards.
  • Connect clients to essential supports — Assist clients to access internal and external services including legal, health, housing, financial and therapeutic supports, ensuring they receive holistic, wrap‑around care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation — Record client information, case notes and data with precision and confidentiality, ensuring compliance with TSA policies and sector requirements.
  • Identify and escalate risks promptly — Monitor client and workplace safety, flag emerging risks early, and escalate concerns to senior staff to ensure swift, appropriate action.
  • Support a safe and hazard‑free environment

What You Will Bring

  • Current Working With Children Check (Blue Card)
  • Cert IV in Social Work, Welfare, Community Development or similar — or equivalent experience
  • Experience in social services (FV sector preferred)
  • Current QLD Driver Licence
  • Evidence of qualifications
