About The Role
We are seeking an experienced CNC Turner / CAD-CAM Programmer to join our growing manufacturing team. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys taking a component from concept through to production using CAD, SolidCAM and CNC turning centres.
The successful applicant will be responsible for creating manufacturing drawings, programming CNC lathes using SolidCAM, setting and operating machinery, and continuously improving machining processes to maximise quality and efficiency.
Experience in high-precision automotive, aerospace or general engineering manufacturing is highly regarded.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and modify CAD models and manufacturing drawings.
- Generate CNC turning programs using SolidCAM.
- Set up and operate CNC lathes.
- Select appropriate tooling, cutting strategies and machining parameters.
- Prove out new programs and optimise cycle times.
- Produce first-off components and ensure dimensional accuracy.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
- Perform in-process and final quality inspections using precision measuring equipment.
- Troubleshoot machining, tooling and programming issues.
- Maintain tooling libraries and machining documentation.
- Work closely with engineering and production teams on new product development.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and workplace safety.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Trade qualification in Engineering (Mechanical or CNC Machining) or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 3-5 years CNC turning experience.
- Strong experience programming with SolidCAM.
- Excellent CAD skills.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Experience using precision measuring equipment including:
- Verniers
- Micrometers
- Bore gauges
- Dial indicators
- Strong understanding of machining tolerances and surface finishes.
- Experience with CNC machine setup and optimisation.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong problem-solving ability.
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
Highly Desirable
- Experience with multi-axis CNC lathes.
- Live tooling and Y-axis machining.
- Twin spindle or sub-spindle machines.
- Experience with bar feeders.
- Knowledge of fixture and tooling design.
- Automotive performance manufacturing experience.
- Experience with ERP or production management software.
