About The Role

ABC News Capricornia is looking for a talented and highly motivated journalist to join its dedicated team based in Rockhampton. Someone who’s passionate about telling the stories of our region and who is willing to go the extra mile to ensure those stories are beautifully produced across multiple platforms.

Under routine direction of the Editor, ABC Capricornia, the successful applicant will be passionate about storytelling and content creation and gain valuable experience in delivering for broadcast, digital, social media and video platforms for the ABC.

As a Reporter, You Get To

  • Produce and present news bulletins, Q&As, interviews and packages across all platforms, including breaking stories.
  • Write digital articles for the ABC News online, and create video content for broadcast, digital and social media platforms
  • Contribute to planning and commissioning processes to develop and distribute new content ideas to achieve strong reach and engagement with audiences.
  • Identify and develop, in collaboration with colleagues, local content that can be shared with other content teams across the ABC on multiple platforms.

About You

You are able to work as part of a team, and independently. You want to connect with people and communities. You like hitting the road, meeting new people and you can give stories a heart. To be successful in this role, you will also have:

  • Demonstrated experience in creating content for multiple platforms.
  • Proficient editorial skills including the ability to source and analyse information and exercise reliable judgement.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the issues that affect and interest the local audience.
  • A current and valid Driver’s Licence

About ABC Capricornia

You will be working out of the ABC Capricornia office in Rockhampton with a friendly, fun and experienced team of content makers. The region spans from Gladstone, on the southern tip of the Great Barrier Reef in the south, out to the Gemfields and beyond in the west. It also encompasses the stunning Capricorn Coast, where you’ll find the Keppel Islands and a plethora of tropical beaches to spend your weekends on. You’ll be surrounded by national parks, full of walks to explore in the cooler months. You’ll work from a beautiful, gold rush era building which sits opposite the mighty Fitzroy River and is close to many great coffee shops and cafes in the Rockhampton City Centre.

Your commute will be easy no matter which direction you come from. The region offers a massive variety of stories to be told, coupled with a great lifestyle. Getting out and about to experience it all, is strongly encouraged.
