The Practice

ASPECT Studios is a purpose-orientated, design-led landscape architecture and urban design practice. With studios across Australia, Asia and the Middle East, we believe in the power of design to positively shape people's behaviour and lives, the environment, and the planet.

Our Wayfinding & Interpretation team reveals the unique stories and histories of places to create meaningful connections for all — bringing together the tangible and intangible across place design, storytelling and interpretation, environmental graphics, integrated public art, and place identity and branding.

The Role

We're looking for a visual communication designer who loves working beyond the page. For you, typography, layout and graphic systems are only the start and the real reward is seeing that thinking become a built, spatial, experienced outcome.

You might come from a graphic, branding or digital background, with wayfinding as part of your story rather than the whole of it. What matters most is your creative nous and instinct. You have a strong eye for composition and information design, paired with curiosity about how that work is experienced and behaves in real space.

At ASPECT, this is where you'll have room to grow. Our Wayfinding & Interpretation studio contributes into the broader One Studio practice across all our landscape architecture studios, at both practice and studio level, with genuine opportunities to extend into interpretation, illustration and brand - telling the deeper stories of a place, not just guiding people through it. From time to time, the role may also support broader ASPECT-wide One Studio graphic needs beyond Wayfinding & Interpretation, creating an opportunity for variety and exposure across the practice. We're looking for someone who wants to bring their skills and perspective into the studio - contributing to projects, process and the way the team thinks and designs. As part of our team, there's genuine opportunity to help shape our studio and our work, as well as to take on a mentoring role, supporting the growth of others in the studio.

You'll also have the chance to learn and expand your own skillset, working alongside team members with backgrounds in industrial design, strategy, architecture, urban design and interior design. You'll work both in-person and virtually with our local team, while collaborating globally across ASPECT Studios.

What you’ll bring

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in visual communication or graphic design, ideally with a background in wayfinding, spatial or information design — candidates with strong brand, print and digital experience are also encouraged to apply
  • A genuine design flair and confidence across typography and layouts, with a strong understanding of how that work translates into the built environment
  • An outstanding portfolio showing strength in visual communication, ideally with examples of work translated into built, spatial or experiential outcomes
  • Advanced Illustrator and InDesign skills, plus broader Adobe Creative Cloud and Microsoft Office proficiency
  • Ability to conceptualise and communicate your ideas on the page, and present them with confidence (a bonus if you can do this in 3D)
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to work directly with clients and multidisciplinary teams
  • A degree in Visual Communication, Graphic Design, or a related design discipline
