Oracle APEX Developer – Application Remediation | 12‑Month Maximum-Term Role (Perth)

Lane8

Know Oracle APEX inside out? We’ve got a clean, well-scoped remediation program that needs a safe pair of hands.

Lane8 Consulting is seeking an experienced Oracle APEX developer for a 12-month max term contract, working on the remediation of a portfolio of business-critical APEX applications ahead of a platform upgrade to APEX 24.2 (with ORDS moving to 23.3).

This isn’t greenfield build - it’s disciplined, like-for-like remediation where the goal is simple: upgraded applications that behave exactly as they did before, with regressions treated as blockers. Working from the output of the APEX Upgrade Advisor, you’ll assess each application, plan the remediation, and execute it - migrating Tabular Forms to Interactive Grids, moving legacy themes to the Universal Theme, replacing page-level jQuery with Dynamic Actions and the apex JavaScript API, and converting Flash-based AnyChart visualisations to Oracle JET.

You’ll work independently as a hands-on developer within a small Application Modernisation team, with a clear scope, real ownership, and a defined finish line. If you enjoy the craft of getting a complex APEX estate cleanly across a version boundary, this one’s for you.

What you’ll be doing

  • Run the APEX Upgrade Advisor across the application portfolio, interpret the output, and build a prioritised remediation plan for each app
  • Migrate Tabular Forms to Interactive Grids - editable columns, validations, row-level processing (the heaviest lift in the program)
  • Move applications off legacy themes (Theme 25) onto the Universal Theme, reworking region, column and button templates
  • Replace page-level JavaScript and jQuery with APEX Dynamic Actions and the apex JavaScript API
  • Convert deprecated Classic Reports and align to current Interactive Report / Interactive Grid patterns
  • Update authentication and authorisation schemes to APEX 24.2 and configure session management
  • Migrate Flash-based AnyChart visualisations to Oracle JET charts
  • Read and modify the PL/SQL and SQL behind page processes, grids and reports so they run correctly post-upgrade
  • Validate ORDS REST modules, handlers and REST-enabled SQL following the ORDS 23.3 upgrade
  • Functionally and regression-test each remediated app in Dev and Test, and support business SMEs through UAT
  • Document remediation steps, decisions and outcomes as you go, working within an established change-control process

What you’ll bring

Essential

  • Advanced, hands-on Oracle APEX development experience, including expert use of Page Designer
  • Proven experience migrating Tabular Forms to Interactive Grids, and building/configuring Interactive Grids
  • Experience running and actioning the APEX Upgrade Advisor and remediating deprecated components
  • Universal Theme migration experience, including region, column and button template directives
  • Strong with Dynamic Actions and the apex JavaScript API (apex.item, apex.region, apex.server) - and able to read existing jQuery well enough to rewrite it
  • Experience updating APEX authentication/authorisation schemes and session management
  • Comfortable converting Classic Reports and working across Interactive Reports and Interactive Grids
  • Sound PL/SQL and SQL - able to read and modify page-process PL/SQL and restructure the SQL behind grids and reports
  • Experience building APEX file-import components with data transformation and validation (APEX_DATA_PARSER, collections)
  • A disciplined, like-for-like, no-regressions testing mindset and strong documentation habits
  • Able to work independently and make sound decisions within a defined scope

Nice to have

  • Experience migrating AnyChart visualisations to Oracle JET
  • Working knowledge of views, synonyms, and APEX collections / session state for multi-page flows
  • Fluent with browser developer tools and APEX debug mode for diagnosing post-upgrade issues
  • Experience validating ORDS REST endpoints and REST-enabled SQL (AutoREST) across an upgrade
  • ITIL certification or process experience
  • Higher Education sector exposure

The practical detail

  • 12-month max term contract, based on site in Perth
  • Salary of $130,000 plus super
  • Only candidates based in Perth need apply
  • Some after-hours work to support testing and cutover, keeping disruption to live applications to a minimum
