Senior Associate / Special Counsel – Workplace Relations

Location: Hawthorn | Hybrid work

FTE: Full-time (Part-time considered)

Step into a senior workplace relations role with genuine client ownership, meaningful work, and a clear pathway to leadership in a values-driven firm.

Moores is a values-driven law firm known for practical, proactive and commercially astute advice. Our workplace relations practice continues to grow, and we are looking for a talented Senior Associate or Special Counsel who is ready to take the next step in a high-performing, collegiate and purpose-led team.

This is a senior role with genuine scope to lead, shape strategy and build trusted client relationships. You will work closely with senior clients on complex and sensitive workplace issues and contribute to outcomes that matter for organisations making a genuine difference in the community.

About the Role

Working closely with our award-winning Practice Leader, Skye Rose, you will advise on a broad range of employment, workplace relations and safety matters for a diverse client base, with a strong focus on education, housing, disability, health, community services and the not-for-profit sector.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • lead significant advisory, litigation and strategic workplace matters;
  • work directly with established clients and build trusted long-term relationships;
  • appear in courts, commissions and tribunals where appropriate;
  • mentor and support other lawyers in a genuinely collaborative team;
  • contribute to the continued growth of a thriving practice with a loyal client base; and
  • develop your profile and progress quickly towards leadership, with active support and clear opportunities to step up.

About You

You are an experienced workplace relations lawyer, likely with at least 5 years’ post admission experience, who enjoys complex, meaningful work and wants more than technical excellence alone. You want to own client relationships, influence strategy, mentor others and build a career in a firm where values and commerciality sit comfortably together.

You will bring:

  • strong experience in employment and workplace relations matters, ideally including workplace litigation, wage compliance, enterprise bargaining, investigations and strategic advisory work;
  • sound judgement, excellent communication skills and the ability to give practical, clear and defensible advice;
  • confidence working directly with senior clients and decision-makers;
  • a calm, thoughtful and commercial approach to sensitive workplace issues;
  • a collaborative style, including a willingness to mentor and support other lawyers;
  • initiative, curiosity and an interest in contributing to a growing, values-led practice; and
  • a desire to build your profile and progress your career in a supportive, high-performing environment.

Why Moores?

  • No timesheets – we price on value, not hours.
  • Flexible hybrid work – we trust our people and generally work two to three days per week from home.
  • Meaningful, varied and intellectually engaging work for purpose-driven clients.
  • Direct access to supportive Practice Leaders who are invested in your development.
  • A down-to-earth, inclusive and genuinely collegiate culture.
  • Tailored learning, wellbeing support and additional leave options.
  • Opportunities to contribute to innovation, technology and value pricing initiatives.

We take our work seriously, but not ourselves. We back our people, care about our clients, and value the way we work together.

Ready to be a force for good?

If you are ready for a senior role where your judgement, relationships and leadership potential will be valued and rewarded, we would love to hear from you.
