About the role

At CatholicCare Victoria we’re committed to empowering communities and building strength and resilience, to enable everyone to reach their full potential and live life to the full. We deliver a range of child, family and youth services, family relationship services, school counselling and pastoral care services, social housing, homelessness services, employment and advocacy services across Victoria.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the CatholicCare Victoria (CCV) with the Family Services program which aims to promote strong families with children who are safe, healthy, resilient and thriving; and parents and carers who are supported to create safe and nurturing home environments.

The Child and Family Practitioner delivers integrated services to children, young people, and families across the Strengthening, Restoring and Kinship streams. The position is responsible for managing a blended caseload where applicable, providing interventions that range from early support through to more intensive, risk-focused work. Suitably qualified Practitioners are supported to further develop capability over time, progressing into increasingly complex work as skills and experience grow.

Specifically, the position is responsible for

  • Operating within a capability-based model, requiring practitioners to apply sound judgement, select appropriate tools and frameworks, and adapt their approach to meet the level of need and risk within each family.
  • Deliver high-quality, client-centred services to children and families across both Strengthening and Restoring streams
  • Provide practical, therapeutic, and system-based support to families
  • Apply evidence-informed frameworks including but not limited to MARAM (risk assessment and management), BICPM (Best Interests Case Practice Model), Safe and Together (domestic and family violence-informed practice), Outcome Star, Ages and Stages Questionnaire, and Family Assessment

To be considered for this position, applicants require:

  • Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Community Services, or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience working with children, young people, and families
  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, frameworks including MARAM, BICPM, Safe and Together, Outcome Star, Ages and Stages Questionnaire and Family Assessment
  • Experience working across both early intervention and high-intensity service models
