Graduate Project Engineer

Benmax

Benmax has been family-owned and operated since 1986, built on a straightforward philosophy: do the right thing, deliver quality work, and treat people well. With more than 200 people across Australia, we’ve grown into one of the country’s most trusted mechanical services and HVAC businesses, taking on some of the most complex projects in the industry. We’re now scaling rapidly to support a major AI infrastructure rollout spanning multiple domestic and international sites.

We’re looking for a Graduate Project Engineer to join our team on site, working across builds of every scale with the kind of in-house control that lets us deliver from design right through to construction. This is real responsibility on real projects, alongside a team that takes genuine pride in their craft.

About the role

This is an entry-level position, ideal for someone in the early stages of their construction career and ready to learn from experienced site supervisors and project managers. You’ll be working on some of the most advanced cooling technology in the industry, supporting modular, immersion-cooled platforms built for next-generation AI infrastructure.

You’ll be the link between the construction team, design, and management, helping to collate, coordinate, and communicate engineering, quality, and tracking information across projects. You’ll be out on-site conducting observations and quality checks, reviewing supplier equipment against project specs, and keeping accurate records that support good decision making.

Day to day, you can expect to

  • Conduct on-site observations, measurements, and engineering or quality assurance checks in line with Benmax’s QA processes
  • Respond to instruction and guidance from site supervision and management, confirming scope and timeframes before getting started
  • Seek review and approval of work before construction proceeds
  • Approach every task with commissioning and long-term facility maintenance in mind
  • Capture and escalate program, cost, quality, and safety issues to the project management team in good time
  • Communicate any timeframe deviations to the Project Manager well before due dates
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date project reporting
  • Review supplier equipment options for compliance with project specifications and design briefs
  • Assess product reliability and other factors to help manage risk to project outcomes
  • Take part in team meetings and internal or external QA audits, and look for ways to improve systems and processes alongside your supervisor

About you

  • Studies in Construction Management, Civil/Structural Engineering or Built Environment
  • Around 0 to 3 years’ experience in a construction, engineering, or project management environment
  • Comfortable with Procore, the Microsoft Office Suite, and ACC/AutoCAD viewer or similar tools, or keen to learn
  • A developing understanding of mechanical cooling systems, including cooling towers, modular and immersion-cooled platforms, power, network and controls systems, and structural elements
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • A valid driver’s licence
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, with flexibility to work on-site, remotely, or to a rostered schedule depending on project needs

We back our people with solid, straightforward support: long-term career pathways, ongoing training and mentorship, industry-competitive pay, and a strong team culture built on trust and collaboration. You’ll be working on industry-leading projects, supported by people who genuinely want to see you grow.
