Royal Mechanical Group Pty Ltd, trading as Royal Poly Products, is a Perth-based Australian engineering and manufacturing company specialising in pipeline pigging and pipeline maintenance solutions for the oil & gas, mining, water, and infrastructure sectors.
We design and manufacture engineered pipeline pigs and support pipeline inspection and pigging operations through practical engineering, field experience, instrumentation support, and in-house R&D capabilities.
About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and technically capable Automation & Control Engineer to join our growing engineering team in Perth.
This role will focus on the design, integration, and optimisation of instrumentation, control systems, and data-driven technologies used in advanced pipeline pigging and inspection applications. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams on smart inspection technologies, sensor integration, testing, and automation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
- Design and validate pipeline pig configurations using engineering calculations, MATLAB models, and performance analysis tools
- Support development of instrumentation, monitoring, and data acquisition systems used in pipeline pigging and inspection operations
- Assist in integration and evaluation of sensors, pig tracking instrumentation, and related pipeline monitoring technologies
- Analyse pig performance, sealing efficiency, wear characteristics, and operational suitability across various pipeline conditions
- Support testing, commissioning, and validation activities for pigging tools and associated instrumentation systems
- Manage and maintain rental pig detection and tracking equipment, ensuring operational readiness and calibration compliance
- Support development of pigging philosophies, operational procedures, and engineering recommendations for pipeline systems
- Apply Python and/or MATLAB for engineering analysis, automation support, modelling, and data interpretation
- Prepare technical reports, engineering documentation, validation records, and controlled revisions
- Participate in research and development activities related to in-house smart pigging, automation, and pipeline inspection technologies
- Collaborate with manufacturing, operations, and engineering teams to support product development and continuous improvement initiatives
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of instrumentation and control systems
- Exposure to pipeline pig manufacturing industry and relevant instrumentation is essential
- Analytical and problem-solving mindset
- Understanding of data acquisition systems and sensor technologies
- Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams
- Strong communication and technical documentation skills
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechatronics, Instrumentation, Automation, or related discipline)
- 2–4 years of relevant engineering experience in pipeline pig manufacturing is preferred
- Exposure to industrial automation, instrumentation, or embedded systems is advantageous
Preferred Tools & Systems
- SolidWorks
- Python and/or MATLAB
- PLC/SCADA systems (desirable)
