StandBy Support After Suicide is Australia’s leading suicide postvention program dedicated to supporting people and communities affected by suicide. Anglicare WA coordinates and delivers the StandBy service across Western Australia. StandBy provides support to people impacted by suicide, works closely and collaboratively with other agencies/bodies providing services and support to minimize duplication of effort, and builds community capacity and resilience through training and workshops. The program is guided by local steering groups, which include community stakeholders and those with lived experience.

As the StandBy Outreach Team Leader, you will assist the coordinator in a nominated region in delivering support for people bereaved or impacted by suicide, and coordinating community engagement, education, and training, as well as other events and activities as directed by the StandBy Coordinator.

This is a part time (0.6 FTE - 22.5 hours per week) permanent opportunity based in East Perth.

About You

To be successful you will have the following skills and experience:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social work, Community Services, Psychology or related Social Science discipline
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in working with people bereaved through suicide and/or dealing with severe personal trauma
  • Demonstrated, well developed interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, including public speaking, facilitation, consultation, and the ability to work effectively both as part of a team and with a broad range of stakeholders
  • Ability to undertake collaborative activities, manage community-based projects including planning and evaluation
  • Ability to work autonomously or with limited guidance
  • Digital skills to an intermediate level, with ability to learn new systems
  • Ability to articulate personal strategies and boundaries as a way of ensuring resilience and wellbeing is maintained, especially in the face of challenging day to day work
  • Experience in providing counselling to individuals, couples and families in crisis
  • Knowledge of current and contemporary approaches to providing suicide postvention

The successful candidate must possess a current National Police Clearance valid within one year; a WA Working with Children Check and a WA Drivers Licence.

  • Salary packaging of up to $15,900 (which equates to circa $4K after tax) plus additional salary packaging of up to $2,650 for meal and entertainment expenses
