WHS Manager (National Role)

Full Time - South Melbourne

Apiam Animal Health is one of Australia’s leading veterinary businesses, made up of 80+ business sites including veterinary clinics, allied business and warehouse and logistics services across the country.

Apiam is seeking an experienced WHS Manager to lead and elevate our health and safety function across our national clinic network.

This is a high-impact role where you will partner with executive, board and clinic leaders to deliver a strong governance framework, embed a proactive safety culture, and ensure compliance across multiple Australian jurisdictions.

About the Role

This is a full-time role based on-site at our South Melbourne Head Office.

You will:

  • Drive WHS strategy and governance across a complex, multi-site environment
  • Provide expert advice to the board and executive team on WHS risk and compliance
  • Lead incident management, investigations and risk mitigation initiatives
  • Build systems, frameworks and reporting that deliver measurable safety outcomes
  • Champion a proactive, practical safety culture across our clinic network

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement Apiam’s WHS strategy and annual plan
  • Ensure compliance with WHS legislation across all relevant jurisdictions
  • Lead audits, inspections and risk assessments, and oversee incident reporting and corrective action
  • Manage workers’ compensation and return-to-work programs
  • Analyse trends and drive data-led improvements
  • Embed WHS into HR practices, onboarding and employment frameworks
  • Ensure clinic-level compliance through regular review and support
  • Deliver WHS training, induction and capability programs
  • Coach and support clinic leaders to manage safety effectively
  • Build and maintain WHS reporting frameworks to report on incidents, risks, compliance and performance metrics

About You

You are a confident WHS leader and strong communicator who thrives in complex, multi-site environments and can influence at all levels.

You bring

  • 5+ years’ experience in a WHS leadership role
  • Strong knowledge of Australian WHS legislation across multiple states
  • Experience building WHS frameworks and management systems
  • Proven capability in incident investigation and risk management
  • Experience presenting to executive and/or board stakeholders
  • Certificate IV in WHS (minimum); relevant tertiary qualification highly regarded
