Y-SHAC provides young people who are experiencing homelessness, or are at risk of homelessness, with stable accommodation and personalised case management support to build skills for life, connect to education, training and employment and to access appropriate longer-term accommodation.

Your role as the Drug Education and Support Worker, is to provide high quality and strengths-based wellbeing, alcohol and other drug (AOD) education services to young people accessing Y-SHAC.

This is a full time (1.0 FTE - 37.5 hours per week) max term opportunity based in Rockingham until June 2027. a { text-decoration: none; color: #464feb; } tr th, tr td { border: 1px solid #e6e6e6; } tr th { background-color: #f5f5f5; } The successful candidate must be available to work rostered hours, including two evenings per week from 12pm - 8pm.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Diploma level qualification in Human Services, combined with significant skills and experience in youth work, or tertiary qualification in Youth Work, Social Work or related behavioural science discipline (must meet current requirement for eligibility for full membership with Youth Work WA)
  • Ability to engage and build strong relationships with and motivate ‘at risk’ young people
  • Case management and assessment skills
  • Ability to accept, respect and work with young people:
    • from a broad range of backgrounds and abilities
    • from different cultures, particularly with Aboriginal & CaLD young people
    • who may identify as LGBTI
    • from all belief systems
  • Up to date knowledge of resources in the youth services field, including alcohol and other drugs, education, training and employment
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of youth housing and accommodation systems
  • Ability to use electronic devices such as smart phone and computer and relevant applications
  • Experience of using Specialist Homeless Information Platform (SHIP) (Desirable)

The successful candidate must possess a current National Police Clearance valid within one year, WA Drivers Licence, Provide First Aid, and a current WA Working with Children Check.

  • Salary starting from $86,950.50 plus 12% super and salary packaging
  • Salary packaging of up to $15,900 (which equates to circa $4K after tax) plus additional salary packaging of up to $2,650 for meal and entertainment expenses
  • Additional 3 days leave per year over festive period
