About The Role

This talent pool includes multiple opportunities across Council’s operational services, with both fixed-term and permanent positions available. In these roles, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy vehicles to support the delivery of civil construction, maintenance and infrastructure projects across the City. You will operate a range of plant and fleet vehicles to transport materials, equipment and machinery to and from worksites, ensuring all tasks are completed safely, efficiently and in line with operational requirements. These positions play a key role in delivering essential community infrastructure and services across a diverse range of environments, including parks, roads, waterways and community facilities.

Opportunities may include operating HR tipper trucks, water trucks, truck and dog combinations, HC tilt tray trucks, float trucks, and other heavy combination vehicles.

Responsibilities Include

  • Safely operate heavy vehicles to transport materials, plant, equipment and bulk loads across Council worksites.
  • Load, secure and transport goods and machinery in accordance with relevant road transport and load restraint legislation.
  • Complete daily pre-start checks, maintenance records, risk assessments and fault reporting.
  • Maintain accurate operational records including logbooks, work orders and incident reports.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members and contractors using radios and other communication systems.
  • Assist with general site duties, including manual handling and the use of hand tools when required.
  • Use Council systems and Microsoft Office applications to complete basic administrative and operational tasks.
  • Deliver a high standard of customer service to internal stakeholders and project teams.
  • Comply with all Workplace Health and Safety requirements, Chain of Responsibility obligations and Council procedures.

We’re Looking For People Who Have

  • Experience operating HR and/or HC heavy vehicles in civil construction, logistics or similar environments
  • Strong commitment to safe work practices and adherence to road transport legislation
  • Ability to safely load, secure and transport materials, plant or equipment
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with supervisors, colleagues and contractors
  • Ability to work independently and contribute positively in a team environment
  • Sound attention to detail when completing basic records and operational documentation
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts, including weekends and public holidays when required
  • Current HR driver’s licence or higher
