Salary range: $123,006 to $133,254 per annum + 13.5% superannuation.
About The Role
This role contributes to the success of the City by providing cultural heritage services, advice and support to achieve Council’s strategic priorities while leading the Heritage and Conservation function within the Development Appraisal Group.
As the Senior Cultural Heritage Officer, you will lead a team of heritage professionals, manage complex statutory assessments and provide authoritative advice on cultural heritage matters within planning schemes and legislation. You will also represent Council in hearings, working closely with internal stakeholders, developers and the community to deliver balanced and informed outcomes.
Role Accountabilities Include
- Leading and managing the Cultural Heritage team, including workload allocation, mentoring and professional support
- Providing expert advice on heritage matters to the public, applicants and developers
- Undertaking complex statutory assessments and representing Council in hearings
- Managing strategic projects, grants and heritage-related budgets
- Supporting the development of strategies and processes to manage heritage assets and planning risks

About You
You are an experienced cultural heritage professional with strong knowledge of heritage frameworks, planning schemes and relevant legislation. You bring the confidence to provide authoritative advice and the ability to manage complex and sensitive planning matters.

- Experience leading, mentoring and supporting a team of professionals
- Strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills across community, industry and government
- Advanced analytical and report writing capability, including preparing reports for senior management and Council
- The ability to navigate complex planning environments and deliver outcome-focused advice
- A commitment to collaboration, professionalism and continuous improvement aligned with Council values
A Bachelor degree in cultural heritage management, architecture or a related discipline, along with significant relevant experience, is required. A current driver licence is also essential.
