We are looking for an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Assistant Capital Accountant to join our Finance Team. This role is ideal for someone with 1-2 years of accounting experience who is looking to build their career in fixed assets, project accounting and financial reporting within a high volume, fast-paced environment.

Reporting to the Capital Accountant, you will play an important role in managing fixed assets, development projects and property accounting processes, while partnering with teams across the business, including Store Development, Repairs & Maintenance and IT.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Assist with the maintenance and clean-up of corporate and tax asset registers, ensuring asset descriptions and classifications are accurate.
  • Review and capitalise costs associated with completed development and capital projects.
  • Review repairs and maintenance expenditure to identify items that require capitalisation in accordance with accounting standards.
  • Reconcile operational asset registers with corporate and tax asset registers.
  • Assist with balance sheet reconciliations relating to fixed assets and sub-ledgers.
  • Prepare monthly reporting and analysis relating to fixed assets and capital expenditure.
  • Process asset retirements and assess replacement assets where applicable.
  • Respond to business queries relating to fixed assets and project accounting.
  • Support ad hoc accounting activities, business reviews and process improvement initiatives.
  • Partner with stakeholders across the business to deliver accurate, timely and commercially focused financial information.

About You

  • 1-2 years' experience in an accounting role, ideally within a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Exposure to fixed assets, capital projects or property accounting will be highly regarded.
  • Strong Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP and logical formulas.
  • Experience using ERP systems, preferably Oracle.
  • Understanding of financial statements, including profit and loss, balance sheet and capital reporting.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships across the business.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work both autonomously and collaboratively.
  • Degree qualified in Commerce or Accounting.
  • Studying towards, or intending to commence, a CA or CPA qualification.
