Competition & Consumer Lawyer | Join a Market-Leading In-House Legal Team
Develop specialist competition law expertise within one of Australia's premier legal teams
Why is this a great role?
What will the role of Competition & Consumer Lawyer at a market-leading Australian business mean for you?
As a Competition & Consumer Lawyer, you will join a highly regarded in-house legal team that plays a key role in supporting strategic commercial decisions across a large and complex organisation.
This is an opportunity to build genuine specialist expertise in competition law and Australian Consumer Law while working closely with senior commercial stakeholders on high-profile projects, new customer initiatives, marketing campaigns and regulatory matters.
Unlike many in-house roles where competition law forms only a small part of the workload, this position offers the opportunity to focus on this area while still developing broader commercial skills and becoming a trusted adviser to the business.
If you're looking for a role where your legal advice will directly influence commercial outcomes, whilst working with experienced in-house lawyers in a collaborative environment, then this is an opportunity worth considering.
The organisation also offers an excellent remuneration package, flexible working arrangements and outstanding long-term career progression.
How will this role develop your career?
You'll work alongside a team of experienced lawyers with significant expertise in competition, consumer and commercial law.
The legal leadership team is committed to mentoring and developing lawyers, providing exposure to complex regulatory issues, strategic projects and direct engagement with senior decision-makers across the business.
For lawyers currently in private practice, this is an opportunity to become embedded within a business, gain greater commercial exposure and see the practical impact of your legal advice.
The size and quality of the legal team also creates genuine opportunities for long-term progression and movement into broader senior legal roles.
Why do lawyers like working here?
This organisation is recognised for investing heavily in its legal function and providing lawyers with the opportunity to work on sophisticated legal issues without sacrificing work-life balance.
Lawyers enjoy the collaborative team culture, quality mentoring, exposure to senior stakeholders and the opportunity to contribute to commercially significant decisions within a highly respected business.
The legal team is viewed as a genuine business partner and plays an important role in shaping strategic outcomes.
What work will you do?
In addition to what is mentioned above, you will:
- Advise on complex competition law matters and Australian Consumer Law issues.
- Provide strategic advice on marketing campaigns, customer propositions and advertising initiatives.
- Advise on product safety and broader consumer regulatory obligations.
- Support the business in managing regulatory investigations and consumer complaints.
- Monitor legislative developments and provide commercially focused regulatory advice.
- Partner closely with senior stakeholders across multiple business functions on strategic projects.
What type of person will be successful?
- Admitted as a solicitor in Australia.
- Approximately 2-4 years' PQE.
- Strong competition and consumer law experience gained at a leading national or top-tier law firm, or within a recognised specialist in-house legal team.
- Excellent technical competition law skills. This role requires someone with genuine expertise in competition and consumer law rather than a general commercial lawyer with limited exposure.
- Strong commercial judgement and the ability to provide practical, solutions-focused advice.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- A proactive approach and genuine interest in building a long-term career as a specialist competition and consumer lawyer.
