Senior Collections Manager - Real Estate

We're partnering with a growing Australian financial services group to find an experienced Senior Collections Manager - Real Estate to take ownership of their mortgage arrears portfolio end to end.

This is a hands-on leadership role for a seasoned collections professional who thrives in a regulated environment and knows how to balance firm enforcement with genuine customer engagement.

About the Role

Sitting within the Collections department and reporting directly to the Head of Collections, you'll manage the full lifecycle of mortgage arrears — from the commencement of enforcement action through to remedy or realisation. You'll lead a team of up to 4-6 staff and be the driving force behind arrears performance, regulatory compliance, and operational best practice.

You'll be actively managing cases, directing legal recovery action, engaging directly with customers, and working closely with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders including solicitors, realtors, process servers, and credit reporting bureaux.

Collections & Recovery

  • Manage daily arrears across a real estate mortgage portfolio
  • Investigate, instruct, and monitor legal recovery action
  • Contact customers to negotiate repayment and remedy arrears in a timely manner
  • Conduct skip tracing and investigations on uncooperative or absconded borrowers
  • Generate and deliver regulatory and ad hoc customer communications across mail, email, SMS, and social media

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of up to 10 collections staff
  • Oversee day-to-day execution of collection processes and ensure strong reporting and monitoring systems are in place
  • Analyse individual and team performance and implement improvement strategies
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of policies, processes, and people across the department

Operational Risk & Compliance

  • Ensure all activities meet regulatory, policy, and quality standards
  • Drive credit and operational best practice across the team
  • Monitor IDR/EDR complaint volumes and quality assurance outcomes

What We're Looking For

  • 8-10+ years' experience in real estate mortgage collections and recoveries ideally.
  • Demonstrated end-to-end mortgage arrears management experience, including complex enforcement in an Australian financial services context
  • Strong working knowledge of ASIC/ACCC Collections Guidelines and NCCP Act obligations (responsible lending, hardship)
  • Proven ability to manage high-volume caseloads under strict regulatory timeframes
  • Strong negotiation, conflict resolution, and stakeholder management skills
  • Excellent written communication and analytical skills
  • High attention to detail and sound commercial judgement

Desirable

  • Tertiary qualification in law, business, finance, or a related discipline
