Automated Test Engineer
Antero Software
Location: Fortitude Valley (Brisbane) / Hybrid
Position Description
Role Overview
As a Test Automation Engineer at Antero, you will play a crucial role in building SaaS products and supporting bespoke software for our clients. Reporting to the CTO, you will sit within our technology team here in Brisbane at our Fortitude Valley office, collaborating with developers, product owners, and our QA team to give us the confidence to release across our growing array of code bases.
The key to success in this role is a genuine passion for quality, clean, well-tested code, meaningful coverage, and automation that lets the whole team ship without fear. You will define and champion the “Antero way” of testing: the standards, patterns, and practices that make our test suites something the team trusts and acts on.
Core Competencies
- A software development background with the ability to design, write, and maintain automated test suites across the front end and back end.
- A passion for quality code, test coverage, and automation, with the judgement to know what is worth testing and how.
- Ability to translate testing best practice into clear, repeatable standards, and to mentor and upskill others in applying them.
- An aptitude for understanding and interpreting the logic and process that sits behind data driven technology systems and testing the parameters they should operate within.
Key Responsibilities
- Release Confidence Across Our Code Bases:
- Defining the “Antero Way” of Testing:
- Establish and document testing standards, patterns, and conventions for our projects.
- Define what good coverage looks like at each layer of the stack, and embed these standards into our day-to-day development workflow.
- Upskilling and Mentoring the QA Team:
- Work alongside our technical QA team to grow their automation and software development capability.
- Run training, pairing, and review sessions that lift the team’s confidence in writing and maintaining automated tests.
- Tooling and CI/CD Integration:
- Build and maintain automated tests across TypeScript, React, Jest, React Testing Library, and Playwright. Apply the same rigour across PHP, Laravel, PHPUnit, and Docker.
- Integrate automated testing into our CI/CD pipelines (Buddy and GitHub) so tests run reliably as part of every change.
- Keep test suites fast, stable, and trustworthy, so results are believed and acted on rather than ignored.
- Communication and Documentation:
- Document standards and present them clearly to the wider technology team.
- Communicate coverage, gaps, and quality risks to developers, product owners, and the CTO using Jira and Confluence.
- Quality Assurance Methodology and Best Practices:
- Contribute to and continuously improve Antero’s quality engineering methodology and best-practice framework.
- Stay ahead of industry trends in test automation and bring better ways of working back to the team.
