As we continue to grow, so too does our team. We are looking for the right candidate to take on the role of Project Financial Analyst. This is a Full-Time role based out of our office in Port Macquarie.

Position Overview

As a key member of the Finance Team, the Project Financial Analyst provides financial insights and reporting to measure performance and support decision making across a portfolio of projects.

Key Accountabilities

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build effective working relationships with project managers, finance, commercial, supply chain and operational stakeholders to support informed financial decision-making.
  • Present financial findings, assumptions and implications in a clear and practical way for non-finance stakeholders, supporting team objectives and project delivery.
  • Collaborate with commercial teams by providing financial analysis and cost insights for customer reporting, bids, tenders, variations and contract-related decisions.

Project Financial Analysis & Insight

  • Interpret project financial data across work breakdown structures – including labour, materials, subcontractors and overheads – to produce reliable analysis, trends and insights.
  • Analyse expenditure, commitments, supplier claims and revenue recognition patterns to identify performance drivers, anomalies and emerging risks, and flag these to project and finance leadership.
  • Develop and maintain financial models, including scenario and sensitivity analysis, to support cost-to-complete assessments, escalation analysis, extensions, variations and payment outcomes.

Forecasting, Budgeting & Decision Support

  • Prepare actuals versus budget and forecast analysis, identify drivers of variance, document assumptions, and provide actionable commentary to support project and team decisions.
  • Prepare monthly project financial reports, dashboards, visualisations, earned value metrics and variance analysis for internal stakeholders.
  • Consolidate project financial information into broader business reporting, ensuring consistency with accounting standards, internal policies and decision-support needs.

Financial Standards, Controls & Assurance

  • Assess project activities to determine the appropriate analytical treatment and financial classification (including OPEX/CAPEX), consistent with internal controls and relevant accounting standards.
  • Provide analytical support to ensure project financial information is complete, consistent and well-evidenced, supporting financial integrity and auditability.
  • Support the preparation of financial analysis, reconciliations and supporting information for audits, regulatory requests and commercial stakeholders as required.

Analytics, Tools & Continuous Improvement

  • Contribute to improvements in project costing models, reporting tools, dashboards and financial analysis processes.
  • Support system enhancements and implementation activities related to project accounting, financial reporting, time capture, ERP modules and analytics tools.
  • Identify and implement improvements within defined scope to streamline workflows, strengthen data quality, and improve transparency and consistency of financial information.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

Essential.

  • Ability to work autonomously under general direction, exercise judgement, and communicate effectively across project, finance and commercial stakeholders.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including scenario analysis, reconciliations and data interpretation, with experience in a project or operational environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of project financial analysis, cost systems, forecasting, budgeting, variance analysis and management reporting.
  • Prior experience in a project finance, cost control, commercial finance or financial analyst role involving complex analysis and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to prepare financial reports, dashboards, visualisations and commentary, and to explain assumptions, risks and insights to stakeholders.
  • Excellent planning, prioritisation, collaboration and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail and a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Able to work well under pressure with strong attention to detail and a procedural mindset.

Desirable.

  • Degree-qualified professional .
  • Experience in the infrastructure and/or construction industry is highly desirable.
  • Microsoft 365 Business Central and Power BI.
  • Experience in the infrastructure and/or construction industry is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience with budget management, requisitions, orders, and invoicing.
