The Team

The Voter Compliance team sits within the Regulatory Law section of the AEC’s Legal Services Branch and is responsible for the national coordination of the multiple marks and non-voter post-election processes.

The team provides support and guidance to a geographically dispersed network of staff undertaking multiple and non-voter processing, provides analysis, judgement and advice on multiple voting and non-voting issues, coordinates referrals for further investigation or prosecution action, and makes significant contributions to the management, preparation and coordination of briefs for AEC Legal Services, the Australian Federal Police and Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions.

The Legal Services Branch is headed by the Chief Legal Officer and is divided into three sections: Corporate Law, Electoral Law and Regulatory Law.

The Opportunity

We are looking for an energetic and motivated Senior Project Officer to join the Voter Compliance team within the Regulatory Law section. The successful candidate will have exceptional communication skills in order to develop and maintain key internal and external relationships, and will collaborate with key stakeholders to identify opportunities, achieve outcomes and facilitate cooperation.

The Senior Project Officer is responsible for ensuring the agency meets its legislative obligations under the Commonwealth Electoral Act 1918 and the Referendum (Machinery Provisions) Act 1984, particularly in relation to multiple voter and non-voter processing.

This role involves managing priorities, monitoring progress, conducting quality assurance activities, and ensuring quality outcomes on project deliverables. Additionally, the officer develops and supports key internal and external relationships, providing high-quality and timely advice and reporting on team functional responsibilities. They make and communicate decisions using sound judgment, expertise, and knowledge in accordance with legislation, regulations, best practice principles, or relevant operating procedures and instructions. Furthermore, the officer contributes to doctrine, election preparation, and delivery activities in line with the election readiness framework, according to their individual accountabilities and responsibilities.
