The Role

As Head of Credit Systems & Strategy, you will own the intelligence layer that powers Lumi's automated lending decisions. This is a senior leadership role managing a team of 5 sits at the intersection of credit risk, data science, and technology, responsible for the performance, evolution, and governance of our decisioning infrastructure across all products and markets.

This role is responsible for making balanced commercial decisions when it comes to developing and deploying automated credit systems ensuring alignment with Lumi’s credit risk appetite. The counterpart to this role is the Head of Small Business Credit, who leads the manual underwriting operations team. Where that role manages the human decisioning layer, you will own the automated one, setting the risk parameters, building the roadmap, and ensuring the systems that approve or decline our customers are smart, fair, well-governed, and commercially calibrated.

Strategic Leadership & Automated Decisioning

  • Translate Lumi's credit risk strategy into automated decisioning logic, working closely with the CRO to ensure system parameters reflect the company's risk appetite and commercial objectives.
  • Own and evolve the automated assessment framework across all Lumi products, balancing risk and reward at every threshold and cut-off point.
  • Develop and execute a clear roadmap for decisioning capability from incremental optimisation of the existing approach to the design of new systems supporting new markets and product lines.
  • Identify and implement AI and technology-driven solutions that improve decision quality, increase straight-through processing rates, and reduce time to outcome.
  • Lead the credit systems strategy for new market and product entry, defining risk tolerance, piloting new decision frameworks, and scaling proven approaches with appropriate governance.
  • Provide executive-level reporting on system performance, portfolio health, and strategic decisioning initiatives to the CRO and leadership team.
  • Calibrate scorecard cut-offs and work with the credit risk modelling team to ensure the modelling approach aligns to the business use case and model usage aligns to the segment appetite.

Portfolio Performance & Governance

  • Monitor and manage the ongoing performance of automated decisioning across both the existing portfolio and new or changing products, tracking approval rates, bad rates, policy compliance, and model stability.
  • Maintain robust governance including documentation, validation frameworks, and change controls for all decisioning logic.
  • Ensure decisioning systems remain compliant with Lumi's credit risk policy and regulatory obligations, including AFCA/AFIA, AML/CTF, and responsible lending requirements.
  • Oversee QA and audit processes for automated decisions, including deal reviews and system-level investigations.
  • Define and maintain performance KPIs for the automated channel including straight-through rate, one-touch rate, approval rate by segment, arrears on auto-approved cohorts.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Transformation

  • Partner with Product and Technology teams on transformation roadmaps, translating credit risk requirements into system specifications and managing structured handovers and pre and post deployment testing and sign-off.
  • Work closely with Operations to ensure automated and manual decisioning processes are complementary, with clear escalation pathways and efficient queue management.
  • Collaborate with the Data Science and Analytics functions to maintain data quality, develop model inputs, and build the reporting infrastructure needed to monitor system performance.
  • Lead change management and training for internal stakeholders when decisioning logic, system capabilities, or automation adjacent credit processes are updated.
  • Align the credit systems roadmap with the strategies of the Head of Operations, Head of Small Business Credit, and Sales leadership.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing specialist team, building capability and clear accountability.
  • Manage team capacity and resource allocation to deliver against the systems roadmap while maintaining BAU performance.
  • Champion data quality and evidence-based decision-making as core team values.

Qualifications

This Person Is Someone With…

  • Substantial experience in credit risk, automated decisioning, or lending analytics, ideally within SME or business lending.

  • Hands-on familiarity with AI, machine learning, or advanced analytics in a lending or financial services context.
  • Strong understanding of model governance and regulatory obligations relevant to Australian lending.
  • Experience leading cross-functional technology and data projects from requirements through to deployment and BAU handover.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop specialist teams in data-heavy environments.
  • Confident executive communication skills, able to translate complex decisioning concepts into clear narratives for non-technical stakeholders.
