About The Role

We are seeking a Lawyer or Senior Associate to join our construction team, within our Commercial Disputes practice. You will provide our clients with relevant construction related legal advice and will focus on a broad cross section of work spanning both front end and back end construction matters.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the prosecution of and defence of claims under the Security of Payment Act nationally and assist in the conduct of litigated claims, and advise generally in connection with the enforcement of and defence of claims arising under construction contracts.
  • Providing contract administration advice to assist our clients with the delivery of their projects.
  • Drafting construction contracts based on
    • amended Australian standard forms of contract; and
    • bespoke forms of contract
  • Review construction contracts and recommend amendments to those contracts to better reflect our clients' risk profile and industry standards including modified Australian standard form of contracts and bespoke contracts
  • Drafting consultancy agreements and related documents including deeds of novation, deeds of assignment and early contractor involvement deeds
  • Liaising with clients, practice groups, opposing lawyers and other stakeholders
  • Collaborating with senior practitioners and other team members
  • Delegating work and providing instructions to lawyers and administrative support
  • Mentoring and coaching lawyers to support their development
  • Supporting graduates and seasonal clerks throughout their rotations
  • Retaining and building business

About You

  • Tertiary qualification in Law
  • Current Practising Certificate for relevant jurisdiction
  • Minimum 4 years' PAE working principally in construction
  • Experience in both back end and front end construction matters
  • Critical reasoning and analytical skills with the ability to think laterally
  • Legal drafting expertise
  • Effective and timely file management and billing ability
  • A highly developed customer service ethic
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships, particularly the ability to earn the confidence and trust of key stakeholders
  • Excellent influencing and negotiation capability
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly organised, able to plan and prioritise work to meet key deliverables
  • The ability to lead, supervise, mentor and delegate
  • Proven ability to facilitate presentations and meetings with varying sizes of groups of people
