What you’ll do

In this pivotal role, you will lead the strategy and execution of the dessert and baking category you will take ownership of financial performance and market share while coaching a team and collaborating cross-functionally to unlock growth opportunities.

  • Develop and implement customer-centered category plans and reviews to meet KPIs across sales, profit, inventory, and market share.
  • Negotiate effectively with suppliers regarding range, Cost of Goods (COGs), and promotional investments to secure a competitive advantage.
  • Oversee the full "4 Ps" (Product, Price, Promotion, Placement), sourcing customer-centric products while ensuring all legal and statutory compliance.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams—including Marketing, Online, Replenishment, and Insights—to execute seamless category strategies.
  • Coach, manage, and develop your team members to foster high performance and resolve customer or store issues promptly.

What you’ll bring

  • Proven buying experience in a large supermarket or FMCG environment (or readiness to step up from a high-performing Assistant Category Manager role)
  • Strong financial and data literacy (including Excel/Google proficiency) to develop market-leading category plans, drive product innovation, and deliver continuous improvement based on commercial insights.
  • A demonstrated ability to negotiate and influence stakeholders at all levels, combining excellent interpersonal skills with a collaborative cross-functional approach.
  • A reputation as an outstanding leader and team player who can coach a high-performing team, fostering a culture where the customer is at the center of every decision.
  • Highly organised, adaptable to change, and resilient, with excellent communication skills and a deep alignment with the Woolworths values and ways of working.
